Holidays to Petrovac take you to relaxing sandy beaches and quiet waterfront restaurants – and leave you close to Budva for history and nightlife.
Montenegro’s finest
Petrovac sits on the southwest side of Montenegro, on what’s known at the Budva Riviera. Backed by pine trees and cypresses, this former fishing village is now an easygoing seaside town watched over by a Venetian fortress. Between terracotta-topped buildings you’ll find tucked-away shops and cafés, while down on the waterfront there’s a choice of beaches.
A beach duo
Petrovac’s town beach comes with red sands folded into a horseshoe-shaped bay. There are plenty of sunbeds and parasols, while the crystal-clear water is perfect for snorkellers as well as swimmers and water-skiers. Next door you’ve got the smaller and pebblier Lucice Beach, which has beach bars and a café. And if you’re out and about, Becici Beach, with its pristine sands and ice-cream parlours, is just 15 minutes’ drive north.
Daytrips to Budva
In 20 minutes you can be in historic Budva, one of the Adriatic’s oldest settlements. The Venetian old town in the south of the city is where you’ll find most of the sights – the grand Citadel fortress was built in 1836 and today you can tour the old stone walls that surround it. Much older is the nearby Roman necropolis, with its 1st-century burial grounds. The Archaeological Museum in Budva holds artefacts found at the site.
