Riu Reggae

Visited at the end of January with my husband and another couple. It was a relatively cheap cheeky week away after Christmas so we didn’t have great expectations, but it was better and worse than expected in different ways. Positives: * Very clean, fresh and modern resort. * Rooms were quite a good size, with plenty of storage and big, comfortable bed. * Good restaurant choice for dinner. * Lovely pools, with great swim up bars. * Drink selection good. * Smokers mostly kept to the smoking areas. Negatives: * Unbelievably bad entertainment team. The daytime entertainment was dire and totally childish, not what we would have expected at an adult only hotel - sack race anyone! It went on for literally hours. * As it was such a small resort it was impossible to get away from the noise of the entertainment team - they don’t seem to realise that you don’t need to shout as loud as you can into a microphone. * Very small, very crowded beach - impossible to get any space, especially when selfish people decide to bring their own speaker and blast their music out to compete with the music coming from the bar. * Nighttime entertainment equally dreadful - every night it was just the entertainment team miming and dancing to a soundtrack. It was embarrassingly bad, the worst we’d ever seen at a resort. Overall the negatives outweighed the positives, we won’t be coming back again - primarily due to the awful (and unnecessarily loud) entertainment team.

We recently visited riu reggae from February 5-12. We are a relatively young couple and have frequented many RIU properties. To begin, the staff by far are amazing!! They go above and beyond and will bend over backwards (literally) to ensure you enjoy your vacation. FOOD- Breakfast- There is a wonderful lady at the breakfast buffet that makes amazing omelettes fresh to order. Be sure to tip her. There is an abundance of food to be had for every taste. Mimosas are abundant as well! LUNCH- both the reggae and riu montego bay have a jerk chicken hut with rice and peas and salad right on the beach. THEY ARE AMAZING. The lunch buffet is also open and has many options both in and outside. DINNER- there are several options for dinner. The buffet was our main choice as the food was abundant and delicious. Aside from the buffet, there are 4 other 'a la carte' restaurants. Dolce vita (Italian), kulinarium (unsure), an asian restaurant, and a steakhouse. We frequented the buffet and dolce vita and both were amazing. The only downside in regards to food is there is no room service available. There is however a 24 hour bar with small snacks (popcorn, sandwiches, etc). STAFF- the staff at this resort are PHENOMENAL. they go above and beyond to make sure you're having a great vaca. They have shows every night and work from dusk until dawn. Bartenders and servers are amazing. Our maid for room 2116 was spectacular. Barbie girl was a favourite of ours. ROOMS- we had room 2116. Pool and ocean view were amazing. If you are avid riu guests- ask for an upgrade. Clean rooms with a restocked mini fridge filled with beer, sodas and water every 2 days. POOL- we woke up relatively early to reserve chairs with our towels (via towel cards) every day. The spots were abundant but if you're specific to which spot you'd like, get up early. BEACH- the beach is man made. (YES I SAID MAN MADE). Many pebbles and not very big. No long beach walks. NIGHTLIFE- shows at night at the main stage. Patcha nightclub at riu montego bay. Overall, we enjoyed our stay! We had a great time. This resort has more of a part feel. Music varied from reggae to top 40 to oldschool. Would definitely recommend. Cheers to all the amazing staff !
