Kata Beach holidays

Soft white sands, an offshore island, and watersports by the dozen are yours for the taking during holidays to Kata Beach.

A beach of 2 halves

Despite being divided in 2 by a rocky promontory, Kata Beach doesn’t have a split personality. In fact, its identity is as secure as it gets. This 1-mile strip of sand on Phuket’s west coast is busy without being crowded. And, although beach bars line the sand, they fill up with families and couples rather than big parties looking for beer bongs and shots.

Action-packed sands

Another of the beach’s traits is its get-up-and-go. There’s always something happening on this swathe of the Andaman coast. The southern end of the beach is a mecca for surfers, the north is the place to go for Thai massage, and the entire stretch offers up watersports opportunities – hobie cats are available to hire by the hour, or you can rent a kayak and row out to Pu Island, roughly half a mile from the shore.

Shopping sprees

Beyond the beach, Kata is home to a good range of restaurants and bars. Thanon Thai Na is the street to gravitate to for an international offering of eateries. The shopping’s not to be scoffed at either. The T-junction in the centre of the resort is lined with handicraft stalls, selling everything from jewellery to textiles. On Kata Road, meanwhile, you’ll find leather stalls and boutiques.
