The brand-new Hotel Riu Sri Lanka boasts an excellent beachfront location, modern rooms and a fantastic dining scene.
Right on the beachfront, this brand-new hotel is one of the biggest in Sri Lanka. And it certainly makes the most of its size, with three pools, five restaurants and more than 500 rooms to its name.
The hotel has been cleverly built in a U-shape, which means the fantastic sea views are always on show. From the higher floors, you’ll get great vistas of the surrounding greenery, too. Inside, rooms are stylish and modern.

Lovely hotel with fantastic staff.
We were really looking forward to our Holiday in Sri Lanka and we weren't disappointed. We emailed ahead and requested an upper floor room with a sea view and were shown to a lovely room with an uninterrupted sea view. It was really nicely appointed and very comfortable. The view from the balcony was of the beach and sea and was really nice to sit out with a G&T listening to the sound of the waves before going to dinner. We were advised not to swim in the sea as it was quite rough during our stay although at other times of the year I understand it is much calmer. The hotel is quite new with 3 swimming pools, plenty of sunbeds and a pool bar where you can use the swim up seats or sit in the bar and enjoy a drink and just relax. In the late afternoon they play bingo which is not everyone's cup of tea but a bit of a laugh and helps to break the ice with other guests and get into conversations. There's Boules on the beach and numerous other activities if you want to take part. I can't praise the staff enough, all of them were so genuinely friendly and interested in us, not just as guests but as individuals. We got really friendly with two of the animation team, Sujani and Shashika who were really good dancers. They were so pleased when we watched them and the rest of the animation team at their shows on an evening and always came to speak to us after the show. The pool bar staff, Prasanna, Dilham and Vijith always remembered what our tipple was and were friendly and attentive without being over the top. I really need to mention Nishan who ran some of the pool activities and was a great laugh. Madara was the hostess on the door of the Buffet restaurant who wore a succession of beautiful Saris throughout our stay. The waiters in the Buffet restaurant were just as friendly and attentive and the food was first class in our opinion. The Head Chef, I think his name was Anura, was always around to talk to guests and ensure everything was to their satisfaction. He even told us that if there was something we particularly wanted he would do his best to prepare it for us There are a number of themed A La Carte restaurants as well as the Buffet. My favourite being the Asian where the food was, as always, excellent as was the service. We booked a 2 day trip with the Rep which was in a private car with a Driver/Guide who was really knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed the trip very much and he took us to an elephant sanctuary, the city of Galle, where we watched India v Sri Lanka cricket from the walls of the Fort and Yala Safari Park plus various other places of interest. All in all a really enjoyable holiday and we will probably return when we've crossed a few other destinations off our list.More

Unlimited food and beverages
Traveled with friends and stayed for one night. The hotel check in was fast and easy. It was heavily crowded on that day. Even though package was all inclusive the theme restaurants was closed due to large crowd and they claimed that those items will be available in the main restaurant. Main restaurant was crowded but there were seating available for all. Finger bowls are not offered and they give wet tissue. May be due to the large crowd the cleaning up of the plates was not sufficient. Plates were stacking up on the main course and starters when we are having the desserts. They didn't came to collect them. There were good selection of buffet . There are cafe open on the evening and after hours that offer foods around the clock. The DJ in the house was not up to the standard. But the sound system and environment is very good. There is a bar next to the DJ serving cocktails, mocktails and liquor. On bad side our room was vibrating due to large sound it make in the DJ. But you won't hear the noise in the room, just the beat. They don't provide toothpaste or toothbrush. So better bring your own. There are swimming pools and pool bar available. The pool area near the pool bar is bit messy as the food are there. Other than the pool there isn't much activities to do here. There isn't much of a view from the rooms. Rooms are standard and clean.More
Hotel offer 24 hrs free drinks and food. For kids there is a separate pool and painting area. There is a live play exclusively for kids. At night they have a free show and night club usually open after the show. Plenty of food at the hotel and variety of buffet is average. Rooms are specious and free WiFi at rooms as well. Check in time is 3.00 and check out time is 12.00 p.m. They provide different rist bands to ensure people adhered to above timelines. More
Tour Trip - LONDIS
Whilst holiday at hotel we did a trip with one if the locals outside the hotel with a Tuk Tuk called Londis. Whilst initially I was a little sceptical I shouldn't have been. Booked a wonderfull days tour, far cheaper than booking before we travelled and had a truly amazing time! Our driver was punctual, respectful, knowledge and it was excellent to ride around and see the real Sri Lanka. The tours we all great, highly reccomend the river boat tour, whilst I have done day trips around the world, this one was hard to beat, spectacular views and wildlife!! I have seen some reviews with negative comments about the locals which are to me and my experience very disrespectful, yes the locals ask you to buy things but are generally courteous and items are good cheap souvenirs but mostly if you are in Sri Lanka you will meet local people, if not why do people travel here to stay in a hotel which is fantastic but can be found around the world.
