The pretty, purpose-built resort of Ixia is nestled along a stretch of Aegean coastline known as Ixia Bay, on Rhodes’ north-west tip. Some of the best hotels in Rhodes line up along the seafront, while the Akramitis Mountain provides the backdrop. There’s an upscale feel to the resort centre, plus lots of child-friendly facilities.

Thanks to its easterly Aegean sea breeze, Ixia’s two-kilometre shingle beach is a favourite with watersports enthusiasts – especially for windsurfing and parasailing. If you prefer to take things a little easier, you can hire a parasol and a sunbed, and stretch out on the private sections of the beach. You’ll spot the Turkish mainland in the distance, while along the edge of the sand you’ve got bars serving drinks and snacks.

Shopping, dining and nightlife in Ixia

The beach runs parallel to a curving coastal promenade, which leads all the way to Rhodes Town. Along the route, you’ll find plenty of bars, tavernas and traditional Greek bakeries. You’ll also reach Rhodesland – a pink shopping centre with boutiques and a swanky pool bar. Back in Ixia town centre, meanwhile, the nightlife’s a mix of neon-lit bars, live music venues, and cocktail spots.

Excursions to Rhodes Town

Rhodes’ historic capital city – Rhodes Town – is just a 10-minute bus ride away. Or, if you prefer a leisurely stroll, it’s just under an hour on foot. The old town’s got plenty in its locker for history buffs, culture vultures and shopaholics. Check out the Street of Knights – where the Crusaders set up shop in the Middle Ages – the Hill of Filerimos or the Temple of Zeus for your history fix. The Turkish Quarter’s the best place for shopping, while Mandraki Harbour’s good for some celeb-spotting on the yachts that are moored here.
