Just over four hours from the UK by plane, Tenerife is an ideal family destination due to its warm weather and child-friendly activities. Autumn is a great time of year to visit the Canary Islands as the weather still sits in the high 20s, and beach days with the kids are always an option. Costa Adeje is the big hitter for family holidays, thanks to waterpark Siam Park. And, nearby Teide National Park offers up activities like mountain biking and stargazing for older children.
If you’re looking for a Greek Island with loads of choice when it comes to beaches, head to Skiathos. It’s one of the smaller spots in Greece’s clutch of islands, and has over 60 stretches of sand to choose from. When you’re finished building sandcastles, see the island on horseback, or hop on a ferry to nearby Skopelos. Opt to stay in a villa if you’re travelling in a big group – swimming pool included.
Perched on the west coast of the United Arab Emirates, Dubai offers up a city break and a beach holiday rolled into one. And, it’s a playground for both kids and adults. Parents can enjoy huge shopping malls, and Michelin-star restaurants, while little ones run wild at the waterparks, the hotel kids club, and KidZania over at The Dubai Mall. This giant playground lets little ones explore a mini town, where they can play about being firemen, doctors, and radio-show hosts. Make sure to head out on a desert excursion too, for activities like sandboarding and desert safaris.
Much quieter than the nearby islands of Majorca or Ibiza, Menorca dials down the party atmosphere and offers a tranquil retreat for families. The shallow beaches offer up great paddling spots for young children, while older kids can try their hand at scuba diving and the slides in the waterpark in Cala’n Bosch. Plus, shopping centre Castilla Menorca lets the kids burn off energy on trampolines, zip wires, and climbing frames.
