Why Order Travel Money With TUI?
How to make the most of your Swedish krona on holiday
Sweden uses the krona, so if you’re heading off on a Swedish getaway, make sure you’ve got some krona sorted before you go. You might also hear this called the ‘Swedish Crown’, as krona means crown.
Each krona is made up of 100 ore, but you won’t find any ore coins as they’re not used anymore. If you pay for goods in cash, the price will be rounded up to the nearest krona. That’s why credit cards are more popular in Sweden. The average exchange rate in 2018 was 11.6 Swedish krona, or SEK, to the pound.
Where to get Swedish krona
You can pick up some Swedish krona at your nearest TUI Store, or online. Cash is actually used a lot less in Sweden than in other parts of Europe. In fact, some types of public transport are now cash free. Cards are more widely accepted, even by smaller shops and kiosks.
A guide to using Swedish krona abroad
A budget of 800 to 1000 SEK a day should be enough for food and drink in Sweden, although you can get more money from ATMs if you need to.
Tipping in Sweden isn’t expected, but a 5 to 10% gratuity is appreciated, especially if a service charge hasn’t already been added to your restaurant bill.
