Why Order Travel Money With TUI?
How to make the most of your Qatari riyal on holiday
If you’re planning a trip to one of the exciting cities of Qatar, remember that the country no longer accepts Indian rupees or the Qatar and Dubai riyal like it used to. Qatar now has its own currency, the Qatari riyal or QAR, with 100 dirhams to the riyal.
The exchange rate is pretty flexible, but in 2018 it was usual to get around five Qatari riyal to the pound.
Where to get Qatari riyal
With the Qatari riyal being used only in Qatar, unlike the United States dollar and euro which are accepted in a lot of different countries, you might find that some places don’t stock it. That’s why we recommend visiting your nearest TUI Store, or ordering from us online.
A guide to using Qatari riyal abroad
Unless you’re planning a truly extravagant getaway, you should find that a budget of 300 Qatari riyal per day is enough to enjoy a comfortable holiday.
In Qatar’s larger cities, ATMs are everywhere, especially in malls and shopping centres, although in the country’s markets, smaller shops and boutiques, it’s best to carry some cash.
Service charges are often included in Qatar, but it’s not unusual for visitors to tip 10 to 15% for good service in restaurants. This is less common in hotel restaurants.
