Why Order Travel Money With TUI?
How to make more of your Indonesian rupiahs on holiday
If you’re visiting Indonesia soon, it’s a good idea to stock up on currency now to avoid money worries once you’re there.
The official currency of Indonesia is the rupiah, although some hotels in tourist centres will accept other currencies – often the US dollar. In 2018 the average exchange rate was around Rp 19,000 to the pound.
Where to get Indonesian rupiahs
You can head to your nearest TUI Store or use our website to order your rupiahs online. It’s a good idea to get hold of your currency a few weeks in advance of your holiday – try not to leave it to the last minute as you might end up paying more.
A guide to using Indonesian rupiahs
Indonesia is a really affordable holiday destination. If you’re concerned about budgeting, or don’t want to bring too much cash, use the TUI budget calculator.
Once in Indonesia you should be able to find cashpoints and use credit/debit cards in cities and tourist areas, but it’s always a good idea to carry cash. In some areas you can get away with using US dollars, but you might end up paying more than you would with rupiahs.
Bargaining is a big part of Indonesian culture, so be prepared to negotiate prices, particularly at markets. Tipping isn’t expected everywhere, but in restaurants, hotels and massage parlours a small gratuity can go down well.
