Holiday Spending Guide

Use our holiday spending guide to help you decide how much to take

Start your Hong Kong trip by sorting your dollars

If you’re off to the national parks and high rise cityscapes of Hong Kong, better start your trip by arranging some spending money in Hong Kong dollars. The Hong Kong dollar’s accepted throughout the country.

The exchange rate between the pound and the Hong Kong dollar fluctuates, but the average was around HK$10.19 to every £1 in 2018.

Where to get Hong Kong dollars

You can pick up your travel money from TUI at your nearest TUI Store, or buy it from us online if you prefer.

You can easily withdraw extra money from many cashpoints throughout Hong Kong. You could also consider taking the TUI Travel Money Card – it’s a secure way to carry up to 13 currencies while you’re travelling. Fees apply if you use the card in Hong Kong.

A guide to using Hong Kong dollars

As travel destinations go, Hong Kong is one of the pricier places to travel to. You’ll need about HK$1100 per day for an average trip. To personalise your budget, try the handy TUI budget calculator here.

At restaurants, plan on a minimum tip of 15%. Up to 25% is customary for exceptional service, although some restaurants do include a service charge – in which case, there’s no need to tip.
