Why Order Travel Money With TUI?
How to make the most of your Bulgarian lev for your holiday
If you’re gearing up for a trip to Bulgaria, now’s the perfect time to start thinking about your travel money and how much you’ll need.
Bulgaria’s national currency is the Bulgarian lev, which can be broken down into ‘stotinki’ – the Bulgarian equivalent of pence. In 2018, the average exchange rate from British pounds to Bulgarian lev was 2.23 lev – the plural of lev – to every £1.
Where to get Bulgarian lev for your trip
Bulgarian lev may be exclusive to Bulgaria but, thankfully, you can find it in any of our TUI Stores. Find your nearest store or buy your travel money from TUI online.
The TUI Travel Money Card’s a safer, more convenient way to carry your Bulgarian lev. Use it free of charge for 13 currencies in over 36 million locations worldwide. It works just like your debit card.
Your handy guide to using Bulgarian lev on holiday
Most shops, bars and restaurants will accept cards, but many rural businesses will only take cash, so it’s a good idea to make sure you have enough cash before venturing away from major towns and cities.
Tipping’s generally not expected in bars or hotels, but is appreciated. Restaurants will add on a 10% service charge to your bill, and taxi fares should be rounded up to the nearest whole lev.
A good daily budget for Bulgaria would be 20-30 lev per person for meals and 15 lev for taxi journeys.
