Holidays to Coma-ruga line up the Blue Flag beaches and laidback Catalan vibes of the Costa Dorada.
Say Hola to Coma-ruga
Hugged by a string of buttery-soft, family-friendly beaches, Coma-ruga is a cosy gem on the eastern coast of Spain’s Costa Dorada. With lush greenery and popping pink bougainvillea, it definitely nails that ‘I’m abroad’ feeling. It’s a great spot for soaking up the sun, or ticking things off your city sightseeing list – Tarragona’s Roman ruins and buzzy Barcelona are both close by. And since you’re in Catalonia, a friendly ‘Bon dia’ will always earn you a smile.
Seaside slowdown
Coma-ruga’s got that Gaudir de la vida – enjoying life – kind of attitude, where siestas aren’t just a stereotype. Its calm seas and laidback charm make it a hit with families, and although it’s not the loudest spot on the map, it lines up seafront shops, restaurants, and a palm-lined promenade. Swing by the harbour for a drink with a view or dip into the natural thermal springs right by the beach. Oh, and did we mention the sunset? It’s a must see.
Make a splash
One thing that’s impossible to ignore is Coma-ruga’s beaches. Windsurfing is one of the main go-tos around here, thanks to the area’s calm waters and easy breeze. For something a bit slower, stand-up paddleboarding lets you enjoy the sea at your own pace. There’s also sailing for those keen to catch the wind, and beach volleyball courts if you prefer the sand. For thrill-seekers, jet-skiing and scuba diving take things up a notch.
Gladiators, Gaudi and good times
Fancy a break from the beach? A half-hour trip to Tarragona takes you back to the days of gladiators, with its ancient circus and seaside amphitheatre – those sea views add a little extra magic to the history, too. Barcelona’s just under an hour’s drive away, and is packed with Gaudi masterpieces like the Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell, and tapas restaurants that set the bar high. And if you’re a bit of an adrenaline junkie, PortAventura theme park is easy to reach, too.
