Holidays to Palau give you an easy-access pass to the untouched islands of the Maddalena archipelago.
Sitting on Sardinia’s rugged northern coast, Palau isn’t your average port town. Its outlook is as picturesque as they come – facing the bright, turquoise waters of the Maddalena archipelago. And there’s an impressive catalogue of beaches lining the shore, too.
The stretches of sand in these parts are non-conformists. They’re a mix of golden curves, white-sand belts and surf havens. You’ll find the main one beside the harbour – its sheltered waters are perfect for paddling and snorkelling. Meanwhile, the others are found on the edge of town, with a bottle-green backdrop of shrubbery and rocks.
Palau puts some of Italy’s most spectacular, footprint-free beaches at your fingertips. The Maddalena islands are a short boat ride away. And most companies offer full-day tours, taking you around the cyan lagoons and castaway-style beaches to swim and sunbathe.
Away from the coastline, you’ve got ancient tombs, forts and unusual-shaped rocks to explore. The Roccia dell’Orso's a popular attraction – the wind-beaten, granite rock's said to resemble a bear. It’s also got a privileged, hilltop position, making it well worth the climb.
