What's great about Luxor river cruises?
If walls could talk, the buildings of Luxor would have some stories to tell. The roots of this city date back to the 3rd century BC, when it was known as Thebes, and pharaohs ruled Egypt. Nowadays, it’s been dubbed an ‘open-air museum’ thanks to its roll-call of sights. Millenia-old temples and tombs line up along the river, while the city’s museums pack in the likes of mummy masks, hieroglyph-etched artefacts and ancient statues. The star of the show though is the Valley of the Kings – this collection of royal tombs is hidden away in the hills about 30 minutes’ drive out of town. Elsewhere, sightseeing makes way for shopping along the bazaars of Sharia al Souk, where you can showcase your best haggling techniques at bustling perfume and jewellery stalls.
