You can walk in the footsteps of a Spanish explorer at the Mexican-themed Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.
This place, which centres on a 22-acre lake, is themed around Mexico. It’s named after Don Francisco de Coronado – an early Spanish adventurer who explored the country in the 16th century.
There are nods to ancient Mexico all over the complex. The main pool features a Mayan pyramid waterfall. Rooms have cocoa-brown and jade-green interiors, and are arranged in pastel-painted casitas blocks.

DON'T BOOK IT without reading first
NOPE!! DON'T DO IT!! Under construction, back-up alarms started at 6:45 AM on Saturday morning, which may not seem too early for some, but... No one told me while booking our 4 rooms for 10 people, that we may be awakened by construction equipment at 0 dark:thirty. Common decency and good business practice dictates you alert potential customers about on-site construction. When we checked in the room there was a little card with 3 free Disney pins as a 'sorry bout the pixie dust' notice. Boy, I call BS! Sure enough I was awakened by the backhoes and trucks, and to the manager's credit, he picked up the tab for $86 bucks worth of room charges which I did NOT feel was sufficient considering the inconvenience. He explained the crews are not supposed to start until 9 am, and said he would have a word with them, again, probably BS, it was supposed to rain in the afternoon and I believe the crews started early to try and make their hours for the day. I think management just writes off the cost of trying to keep their customers satisfied with Disney pins and little room credits, etc. but they are not honest or forthcoming with the fact that they are under construction until you arrive and see the cranes and backhoes, as you are walking to your room. That's the crux of my pet peeve. Aside from that, the room was like a mid-range Best Western that needed updating. Carpeting was stained and looked like 1994 was calling it back for a shampoo. We flipped the mattress around at midnight after my husband couldn't stand it any more, it was broken down on the side away from the wall so badly it sagged and the coils were waving at us. Minor improvement. The furniture was well-used and chips & dents were obvious. I must say I was surprised this hotel was offered on a Disney property, especially at this price point. Food onsite was fair and a bit pricey, but better than waiting in long lines at the parks for table service. If you have dining plans, be selective about what you choose for snacks when it comes to value; you can pick a healthy wrap on a small plate or you can get a milk - the plan doesn't differentiate between a $4-$5.00 (small meal) snack item and a cardboard milk container so make careful choices to maximize the value of your plan. Not a 'wonderful tropical resort' by any means....pool area was redeeming and the main conference center and hotel lobby were attractive. We booked 4 rooms for our party and requested they be near each other, 3 were, and the 4th was in a different building altogether. ??? We did get our requested water view, which also included the cranes and construction site. The front desk clerk was polite and confirmed my cell number, checked us in with the promise she would text as soon as our room was ready, which she never did. The bus service timing was unreliable and generally took longer than indicated on the signs. There was a disabled woman who was made to wait for the 3rd bus to come around before there was room for her to board with assistance. She was complaining she had been there for an hour and a half! Overall I was disenchanted with our Disney experience at this hotel. Too many disappointments to be overcome for it to be the promised 'Magical Disney experience'. And, way too far to travel from California and find that Disney thinks this is acceptable. Left wondering how other people tolerate this kind of rip-off. The only redeeming factor was my wonderful family and our time together on this trip!More
Nice but huge
The accommodations were nice but the complex is huge to get around. The walk to the lobby to eat would be difficult for some. It was difficult to get a bus sometimes because they were few in number and many times full. Rooms were clean with fridge but no microwave. More
Good choice in Disney
Stayed at the Coronado for 3 nights as part of a conference in around the Disney Village. Quiet hotel over a very large area with good facilities and restaurants. I had a newly renovated room in Sector 7A and was highly impressed by its quality, comfort and functionality. The site was disturbed by the construction of the new complex to be completed in 2018 but that was easily manageable. I truly enjoyed their gym with high quality equipment. Good value for the price in around DisneyMore
You know it's not about the hotel room when going to Disney. My husband and I are seniors and we wanted to go to the Wine & Food Festival this year at Disney. Well....the festival was disappointing in that the prices were ridiculously high for a sampler. Better off just going to the restaurants in Disney Springs. But anyway...the hotel....make sure you get a room that is close to a bus stop. Makes everything much easier...don't eat off the menus the outside competition slide under your door...not good.More
The updated rooms are beautifully updated. There was construction going on throughout other areas of the resort but this did not impact our stay. We stayed in the Ranchos and the area was quiet. The only issue we had was that we were missing stirrers for the coffee and the paper cups were missing, even though we had lids. The bed was actually very comfortable. The electric outlets were convenient and there were plenty of USB outlets to charge your electronics. Great stay overall.More
