Alila Diwa Goa

Came to Alila Diwa in Majorda for a break before the winter. Originally booked with Thomas Cook but as that went under we rebooted with TUI for the same hotel. The hotel is lovely and the staff are friendly and helpful. We did a b&b so had most dinners outside. There are plenty of good eating places outside in the villages and two or three nice ones down on the beach. Our best experience was a meal at Masha on the beach at sunset, at a candlelit table. Good food and drink, low prices. Pestered a bit by ladies on the beach selling trinkets and wraps, but all very gentle and good natured. All in all a lovely holiday in a great location, would come back definately

Our fourth visit to the Alila and the hotel is still as good as ever, good improvements made since last year. The hotel grounds are immaculate and staff always helpful to assist where they can. Chadwick greeted us on arrival and a stress free checking which is a vast improvement over the years (well done). It’s early days yet on our holidays and we are staying for 3 weeks but so far could not ask any more. Once again well done Alila and all the staff.

I've checked some of the low rank reviews of the place before coming and either the management acted on them very well or they were blown out of proportion. Our stay was incredibly relaxing, the staff were all attentive, competent and incredibly pleasant. The food was varied and tasty - if you get tired of Indian food, there is a dedicated Mediterranean cuisine restaurant and even the main restaurant has plenty of tasty food options, although one remark here - eggs may not be vegan but they are most definitely vegetarian. Labeling them as a meat product confused me initially. The hotel itself is beautiful and clean. While there were ongoing works on a new part of the hotel going through the day we didn't find them intrusive (that said, we were in a different part of the hotel, don't know what it was like for people staying in west wing). The location is a bit remote which is both a blessing and a curse - curse in the way that you have to take a one mile hike to the nearest cash point without a guarantee that it will actually have cash. This could be remedied by the hotel having an ATM on site. Other than that I can't really complain. The (frankly beautiful) beach is fairly close and if you don't fancy the walk, there's a shuttle that takes you straight over. Be warned however that soon as you arrive you'll be greeted by several overzealous Nepalese chaps trying to get you to come to one of the shacks on the beach. There are also some dogs there that will home in on you if they smell food but they left us soon as they realised they weren't getting any. If you come after sunset you may spot some tiny crabs scuttling around as well. On the note of facilities and activities: there's a basic gym which you can access 24/7 and a spa and if you ask at the desk, the concierge can arrange one of several trips they have prepared or book a taxi for you to go exploring on your own. WiFi I found to be a little patchy in our room but covered the hotel grounds fairly well otherwise. In terms of entertainment there was nightly live music and a mini cinema offering a mix of Bollywood and western films. So would I recomend this place? Definitely unless you're after a place that offers a lively club scene in which case you may want to look at hotels in northern Goa.
