Paradise by name, paradise by nature, this hotel has dreamy Caribbean Coast holidays all sewn up. For starters, it’s right on the beach – a powder-soft ribbon of sand with a sprinkling of palms and widescreen ocean views. If you fancy splashing out, there’s a VIP section of the beach set up with plush Bali beds. It’s reserved just for guests staying in Privilege rooms. On the subject of rooms, the hotel’s Junior Suites are split into four distinct zones. The Daisy section is ideal for families, El Beso is just for adults, Eden is right by the beach and Privilege rooms have an added dose of luxury. You get 24-hour room service and a private balcony or terrace with a whirlpool, for example, plus nice little extras like a welcome gift and a bottle of wine.
In the daytime, the hotel’s quartet of outdoor pools steals the show. Top marks go to the one sandwiched between the hotel and the beach. Once the sun sets, you can listen to live music in the theatre, have a flutter at the glitzy casino and sit down to dinner in one of nine restaurants including a steakhouse and an Italian à la carte. Plus, Playa del Carmen is only a 10-minute drive down the road, so you’re all set when you fancy hitting the bars and restaurants along Fifth Avenue.

If you’re keen to get out and explore the Riviera Maya below-water, put this hotel at the top of your list. It’s about halfway between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, close to Puerto Morelos. This small port town is backed by mangroves and faces a barrier reef that surfaces just offshore. That means you get prime scuba diving and snorkelling territory right on the doorstep.
The hotel has a scuba diving school and runs daily reef excursions, as well as full-blown diving courses and trips out to explore Mayan cenotes close by. That’s if you can tear yourself away from the four pools, of course. Swim-up bars, waterfall fountains and sea views complete the scene, so you’d be forgiven for staying poolside.
Restaurant-wise, the Ocean Coral & Turquesa by H10 pulls out all the stops with an impressive seven places to dine. Tuck in to big buffet spreads at Casa del Mar, dress up for dinner at Ritratto d'Italia à la carte, and soak up sea views and shellfish dishes at Villa Marina Caribbean restaurant, which looks out over the beach.

If it’s a grown-up getaway you’re craving, check in to the adults-only Ocean Maya Royale by H10. Smaller than many of its Riviera Maya neighbours, this luxury property has a boutique hotel feel and a super serene vibe thanks to its tropical garden setting. Factor in a white-sand beach just out the front and the location is well worth writing home about. On the pool front, there are two huge swathes of blue to pick from – one with a swim-up bar, and one with in-water sunloungers. Both come with Caribbean Sea views and smart sun terraces dotted with plants and parasols. There’s also a spa with a whirlpool where you can sink into a relaxing petal bath, or opt for an indulgent massage on a beachfront gazebo.
Hungry? You won’t be for long. The hacienda-style buffet restaurant opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and there’s a poolside snack place, a fresh juice bar and a café serving proper coffee and cakes. Refined dinners are on the menu thanks to a trio of à la cartes, too. There’s an Italian place on the beach, one serving Mexican specialities, and a third dishing up mouthwatering Asian flavours via a Teppanyaki grill.
