So I travelled to Jamaica with my partner and two children (16 and 5). This was a trip of a lifetime for us. Review of hotel - Reception- so upon arrival we were all tired after 9 hour flight and hour and a half travel to hotel to be met by a very rude receptionist who didn't want to listen to anything we as guest had to say. We had requested via Thompson to be moved to the deluxe side of hotel as Thompson had not told us when we booked a year ago that there are two sides of hotel (standard and deluxe) so they had emailed hotel and asked for us to be upgraded upon arrival free of charge. The receptionist wouldn't listen to what I was saying and kept saying just speak to your rep... I advised receptionist that I could see on the booking screen that the notes were there, she then hide the screen from my view. She was not helpful at all, my partner then spoke to Thomson rep (pauline) and her manager, the manager ignored my partner and played a game on his mobile throughout the whole conversation that my partner had with Pauline, who again ignored my partner not even looking at our booking notes and just saying we would have to pay $200 per person for the 14 nights. So in short the hotel receptionist and Thomson rep plus manager were totally unprofessional. Great start. Room - I had requested adjoining rooms and no we didn't get that either. So we had two standard rooms and when we went into our room it was very dated furniture, big box tv, dated sideboard, two double beds pushed together with what looked like an old curtain as a throw over the top. The floor was very slippery and the bed damp as the air con was not on correctly, the room also smelt very badly of damp. We called down to reception to request to be moved rooms to be told we could look at rooms on next floor as we were on ground floor over looking gardens. Went to look at other rooms exactly the same as room we had been given. Asked for our room to be re-cleaned which they Did, I opened patio door and let air through for an hour then sorted air con out and went to pool. Came back and room was better not 5 star at all but better. Bathroom was clean and shower worked well. Children's room was not damp nor did it have wet floor but after a couple of days with air con you could smell smoke in there room from other rooms. Hotel pool - Stunning, loads of beds to choose from, pool clean, pool bar brilliant, life guards on duty alday. Hotel entertainment staff - Throughout day they had activities on that were detailed on board in main foyer, beach volley Ball, beach aerobics, pool aerobics, pool games. My only issue with the entertainment was it was very repetitive, always introducing themselves about 6 staff each day which felt like they wasted time and the competitions they did at 3pm at pool side were adult orientated when there was no kids clubs on so children saw a lot of adult humour when it could have been avoided if more thought had been given by management. The evening shows were spectacular and so much effort put in by the team. Sparkle (my son loved her) birdman, jerry, Kelly and George you were so entertaining and really looked after guests. The white beach party held on a Monday was excellent and the lion king show was spectacular. Food - There were 4 restaurants to choose from for guests on standard side - main restaurant with themed nights, food was amazing I have to say, so much to choose from, Chinese restaurant again food lovely, steak house which was really good and an al carte restaurant which we didn't try. In evenings men were not allowed to wear vests in restaurants and in al carte they had to wear shirt and trousers. Breakfast was served in main restaurant and again so much to choose from - there was no dress code for Breakfast, lunch could be eaten in Italian restaurant or plantation restaurant, we preferred plantation restaurant as over looked beach and my partner had best seafood stew he had ever tasted there. There is a restaurant open until 2am and also a 24hour sports bar as bar and night club close' s at 2am so if more drink wanted then sports bar is open for that as well as having a slot machine casino and arcade games plus pool tables also shows football matches etc for the people that can't miss that lol There is a jerk hut on beach but we didn't find it that tasty. So many drinks to choose from and bar staff really nice and helpful. Tips not requested by staff but can be given if you wish. Waiters and waitresses very good, looked after us very well always filling our glasses and removing plates. Beach - beautiful so beautiful, water so clear and warm and beach had loads of beds on it which was fab. There is a gym as well which my partner used throughout stay and trained with entertainment staff😀 The hotel is very clean always staff cleaning throughout day and night. We had the best 14 nights we could have wished for in a stunning location and made all the better by the waiters, waitresses, bar staff and entertainment staff at hotel. Our children have already asked us to book to stay again and I would really really consider it. Thank you RUI OCHO RIOS for the most amazing holiday.More
I couldn't find any faults with this hotel, it was my 1st time in Jamaica with my partner, staff were brilliant, hotel very clean, guests taken well care of, loved every minute and the complex had everything we could possibly need! Will be back again More
Me and my partner visited in June. The front desk were very welcoming and greeted us with a lovely cocktail which was just what the doctor ordered after a day of travelling. We then went to our room. Very clean. Huge bed and views over the pool and beach. Made the most of all the bars around the hotel and restaurants. So much to offer and enough variety to cater for everyone's needs. The beaches were beautiful and well kept and all the hotel staff were friendly and couldn't do enough to help any of us. We only got wifi in our room from the last day so could only contact family when in communal areas which was a pleasant surprise as we were able to enjoy each other's company more. Only downfall was the rain. But every cloud has a silver lining. We made the most of the excursions the island hd to offer including the Zion bus and the blue mountain bike tours. Dunn's river falls slightly over rated would recommend ys falls. More
Security Officers holding parking spot for friends 😡😡😡
So the front desk staff are great! Do not rent a car and go on the road. The security guards block off the parking spots and tell you that they are instructed by the Manager to do so. I guess having a gold armband only entitles you to go everywhere on property except parking privileges!!!!More

It was a one in a lifetime experience
Well there is no hospitality from the front desk, upon arrival .rooms were not ready for over an hour. The signage for rooms not very clear, we went to the wrong building, after waiting all that time, wrong floor. Once we found our room, the location of room right by elevators, which I must say were raggedy as hell! Aghhhh!!!! Oops I forgot the odor, upon our entrance it was MUSTY as HE'LL!!!!! Now to the room that was not ready, the beds spread horrible, light bulb in the bathroom, one was out, still waiting for a new bulb!!! I'm home now, TV, phone, no internet service for two days. They had nerve to have a sign to apologize for inconvenience, but in an emergency we can email them, question? How can you e-mail without internet access???? Dummy!! My cousins had roaches in their room, they send a can of Raid! SMH! The restaurants were good, food was ok nothing to write home about, was on the bland side, no ginger tea, no ginger beer. I would have enjoyed it. The food didn't have island flavor too me, as a child who grew up in Jamaica. Very disappointed.More
