Where we sail in Puerto Rico
Mountain-ridged and decorated with rainforests and waterfalls, the island of Puerto Rico packs a punch. It’s surrounded by other pint-sized islands and cays, many of which you can reach by kayak or paddleboard if you fancy a spot of adventure. The beaches are ideal, too – think palm-backed ribbons of silver, cosied up to gin-clear waters. Take the tempo up a notch in San Juan, Puerto Rico’s capital. This colourful harbour town ticks off a rainbow-splashed old quarter, a sea-facing fortress and the biggest shopping mall in the Caribbean – the Plaza Las Americas.
Natural wonders and neighbouring towns
If it’s rainforests you came for, you won’t be disappointed. An hour’s drive from San Juan lands you in El Yunque Rainforest. Rivers and waterfalls criss-cross 28,000 acres of the island, and there are lots of ways to find them. Like zip-lining, horse-riding and hiking. If you’d rather stay closer to port, visit some of San Juan’s neighbours instead. The Afro-Caribbean coastal town of Pinones is just a few minutes’ drive away and a perfect stop for local street food like codfish fritters. Or, visit Santurce. This arts and culture hub’s a 20-minute drive from San Juan and crammed with colourful galleries.

Facts about Puerto Rico
Port of call in Puerto Rico
San Juan
From a huge sea-facing fortress, to the colour-splashed old quarter, the Puerto Rican capital is choc-full of colonial character. Explore the narrow streets, and you’ll lose count of the number of jazzy murals and tucked-away squares along the way. It all culminates in a maze-like peninsula beside the Caribbean Sea, which has long sandy beaches stretching down one side, and a smart harbourfront promenade lining up bars and restaurants on the other.
