Cocoa Beach holidays

Cocoa Beach, Florida

Holidays to Cocoa Beach take you to the heart of Florida’s Space Coast – expect miles of super-soft sand, a first-class watersports scene, and plenty of sea-view restaurants.

Sand, sea and space shuttles

Cocoa Beach is one of the main hubs along Florida’s Space Coast – a 72-mile stretch of shoreline with pristine sands and inviting waters. A lot of the hotels in this part of the Sunshine State are either by the coast or within earshot of the waves, making it a great pick if you want to sprinkle an extra serving of sand into your holiday to Florida. What’s more, the world-famous Kennedy Space Center and its collection of rockets and astronaut training simulators are close by, too – you can reach them in 30 minutes by taxi.

Surf and sparkle

The lagoons behind Cocoa Beach are one of the few places in the world you can see bioluminescence – the Northern Lights of the ocean. Head out on a night kayaking tour to paddle through blue-glowing waters, caused by tiny plankton, or spot luminous, Avatar-style jellyfish. If thrills are more your thing, Cocoa Beach is also home to some of the best breaks in Florida for surfers, with waves for every ability level. Wipeout warriors can gear up at the Ron Jon Surf Shop, an iconic emporium for beach essentials adjoined to the Florida Surf Museum.

Cocoa Village

When you’ve had your fill of the sand and surf, the historic riverside settlement of Cocoa Village is just a 15-minute drive away. Here, the way of life feels frozen in time, from the vintage thrift shops to an antique playhouse. Stroll around the art galleries, bakeries and boutique stores by day, and then check out speakeasy bars or see a musical theatre performance by night.

Beaches

The jewel in the Space Coast’s crown

Cocoa Beach’s six-mile long stretch of shoreline takes centre-stage on Florida’s Space Coast. The biscuit-coloured sands and glass-clear waters make this one of Florida’s most attractive beach spots. The main beach is a haven for adrenaline junkies. Surfers travel from far and wide to ride the waves here, and surf schools are strung along the beachfront. Kayaking, paddleboarding, and windsurfing are just some of the other watersports you can have a go at, too. Or, you can simply put your feet up for a good old-fashioned sunbathing session. Head a few miles down the coast and you’ll come to the sleepy seaside town of Indialantic – home to just 4,000 people. The sandy swathe here is largely off the tourist track, so you can switch off with the locals for company and dodge some of the bigger crowds.

Shopping

Bargain buys

Just a 20-minute car ride away, you’ll find Cocoa Village – a small, historic town with tree-lined avenues that sits alongside the banks of the Indian River. It’s home to a number of independent shops, and there are regular markets, art and craft festivals, and sidewalk sales that take place along Brevard Avenue.

Nightlife

Lively evenings

For the biggest nights out, Orlando has everything you’d expect from a major city. However, if you’re looking to stay a little closer to base, then Cocoa Village is the place to head to. Loads of lively bars stay open ‘til late, and there’s a handful of nightclubs that stay open into the small hours.

Food & drink

Oysters on the shore

Fresh oysters are a speciality in these parts. You’ll find them on lots of menus along the coast, and if you’re after something authentically American, try a fried oyster po’boy – a traditional Louisiana sandwich that’s spilling at the seams.
