Thanks to the lack of airport on Paxos, there aren’t any sprawling hotel complexes here.Instead you’ll find modest villas dotted around the tiny island, from the capital of Gaios to the smaller fishing villages of Loggos and Lakka.

A popular sandy beach is Mongonissi, a five-minute drive from Gaios. It’s a good spot to hire a pedalo or try out some windsurfing. The gently shelving beach is backed by a family-run tavern. While you’re here, treat yourself to a day trip to Antipaxos, a tiny speck of an island 20-minutes away by boat. You’ll stop first at Vrika beach, before continuing to the stunning Voutoumi beach.
