Medieval Marksburg Castle

You’ll switch across to the east bank of the Rhine for this trip, which takes you to a castle that looks like it’s been plucked from the pages of a fable. Marksburg Castle is set on a hilltop in the UNESCO-accredited Rhine Gorge, with sweeping 360° views of the surrounding countryside. It’s like a smaller version of Bavaria’s iconic Neuschwanstein Castle – which you’d recognise from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Once you’ve crossed Marksburg Castle’s drawbridge, you’ll be taken on a guided tour of the wine cellar, great hall, gun battery and armoury within. There’ll be time to browse the gift shop at the end, before you board the bus back to Boppard.
