Croatia is packed with natural wonders, beautiful beaches and Instagrammable sights. But Dubrovnik is the jewel in its crown. With distinctive red rooftops and bright blue waters, this city is one of the most recognisable in Europe. And its fame has only increased in recent years, thanks to its starring role in Game of Thrones. The HBO TV phenomenon has put Dubrovnik firmly on the map, making it a popular choice with UK holidaymakers.
In this video, you can enjoy a sneak peek of Dubrovnik’s highlights, including some of Game of Thrones’ most iconic backdrops. For panoramic views like these, ride the cable-car up to Mount Srđ. From the top of the mountain, you can see rows of terracotta tiles, the blue Adriatic Sea, and Lokrum Island anchored just offshore. You’ll also be able to spot Lovrijenac Fortress in the distance. Built in the 11th century, this ancient fort is fit for a king – which is probably why it doubles up as the Red Keep in Game of Thrones. You might recognise the bay below, too, which was used to film the deadly Battle of Blackwater Bay in season two. Park Gradac, meanwhile, set the scene for the dramatic events at the Purple Wedding in season four.
The Medieval Old Town is packed with Gothic buildings and Renaissance architecture. The stunning arches you can see belong to Rector’s Palace, which now houses Dubrovnik’s Cultural History Museum. But Stradun is the star of the show. As the city’s main street, this huge limestone plaza is teeming with restaurants and bars.
Due to overwhelming demand, we’ve introduced even more holidays to Dubrovnik for summer 2017. We’ll be flying from 12 UK airports, including London Gatwick, Manchester and Glasgow, plus we have some slick new hotels. Check out the latest addition to our Platinum collection, Kompas Dubrovnik Hotel. This place is in a quiet spot on the fringe of the city, and comes with a tree-lined promenade and sea views. But if you want to be in the heart of the action, Lero Hotel is just a 15-minute walk from the clubs and bars of the Old Town. Or you could stay right by the harbour at the elegant Hotel Lapad, another new member of our Platinum collection.
The Kompas Dubrovnik Hotel watches over the pretty promenade and pebble beach of Lapad Bay, a serene spot on the outskirts of Dubrovnik.
The Lero Hotel is a big hit with TripAdvisor reviewers, who love the up-to-the-minute interiors and scenic strolls into the city.
The Rixos Premium Dubrovnik lines up a best-of-both setting on the seafront and is just a 20-minute stroll from the old town.
