For some, long-haul flights are the best part of the trip. It’s the chance to catch up on some of the latest blockbuster movies, bag some bargains in duty free and have a stress-free few hours in the air away from your work emails and social media. And your holiday will start in style when flying on one of our Dreamliner planes – with extra legroom, mood lighting which mimics dusk and dawn to help you combat jetlag, and more oxygen than you’ll find on other planes – so you’ll start your holiday feeling relaxed.
A long-haul flight is also the perfect opportunity to take some time to really pamper yourself, treating your skin to some TLC. We enlisted the help of celebrity and fashion make-up artist and beauty vlogger, Harry Hatfield, to give us her top tips for a long-haul flight. You can watch the full video up above, or on the seatback entertainment screens on board our Dreamliner planes on all long-haul routes. All of the great products Harry mentions are available for sale on our flights, with prices to rival the high street. But if that’s not enough beauty tips for your next trip abroad, here’s a few more…
It’s no secret that skin can become very dehydrated on a plane, thanks to there being less oxygen on board. But worry not - there are several ways you can combat this. First, make sure your hydration levels are permanently topped up by taking advantage of the free drinks on board. And no, we’re not talking G&Ts - water and fruit juices are your best bet. And as tempting as they are, make sure you avoid any salty snacks, like crisps and pretzels, as these can dehydrate you.
For the ultimate skin hydration, we love Ark’s Hydration Injection Masque. It’s a multivitamin face mask which smoothes wrinkles and gives you a vibrant, rested glow – even if you’ve stayed up the whole flight watching movies.
If you’re prone to dry skin then miracle product, argan oil, might be for you. And there’s no better place to snap it up than its birthplace, Morocco. Before you go, make sure you read our guide on where to find the best quality argan oil.
Wearing plant-based products can help protect your skin from becoming too dry, and is a firm beauty favourite with cabin crews from around the world. Clarins’ Double Serum is rich in 20 different plant extracts, and helps boosts the skin’s vital functions. You’ll see smoother skin, a more even complexion and a healthy glow after using this product, and it’s the perfect base before you put your moisturiser on.
If you’re going to opt for make-up on the plane, make sure you choose the right stuff. Using waterproof products can be great once you’re on the beach or in the pool, but products like mascara can be really drying when in the air. If you really can’t live without a bit of make-up on the plane, we’d recommend trying Benefit’s They’re Real mascara. It’s not waterproof, so you retain moisture, and it will also give you the long, voluminous lashes you’ve been dreaming of.
You might not be thinking about suncream until you’ve touched down on the beach at your holiday destination. But while you’re up in the air, you’re exposed to harmful and powerful UVA rays which can damage your skin. Make suncare part of your long-haul beauty regime with the Lancaster Travel Set, which includes the Sun Beauty Velvet Touch Cream SPF 30 for your face, Sun Beauty Silky Fluid Milk SPF15 for face and body and two Tan Maximizer Repairing After Sun lotions for your face and body to keep that sun-kissed holiday look.
And if you want to keep that bronzed look for longer, check out our guide on how to make your tan last.
Sleep is essential for a long-haul flight so you can make sure you’re raring to get your holiday started the moment you land. But sometimes, with all of the great films on offer and the excitement of reaching your hotel in just a few hours, it can be hard to get to sleep. This Works Pillow Talk set, with soothing lavender scents, is excellent for helping you to drift off. Simply spray the Deep Sleep Pillow Spray on your travel pillow to create a peaceful atmosphere and send you into the land of nod. And if you’re a nervous flyer, you can use the Stress Check Breathe In, with 100% natural essential oils, to help you breathe easily and calm your senses.
All of the products mentioned are available to purchase on your next Thomson flight.
