Everything you need to know about TUI River Cruises
Whether you’re brand new to river cruising or you’re an old hand on the waterways, you’re bound to have a few questions about our TUI River Cruises. Here’s a handy guide on everything you need to know…
Before you go
Do I need a visa for my TUI River Cruise?
If you’re a British passport holder, visit the FCO website or call 0845 850 2829 for the most up-to-date information. For other passport holders, please check with the consulate or embassy of the countries you're travelling to. If you’re travelling on one of our Nile cruises, you will need a visa, but these can be purchased at the airport on arrival.
Can I pre-book my cabin, and how much does it cost?
You can pre-book a specific cabin number up to six days before departure, from £55. If you'd like to book a specific cabin, simply choose it at the time of booking or call our River Cruises Team after you've made your booking on 0203 451 2688 to reserve the one you want.
How much luggage allowance do I have?
You'll need to check your airline confirmation to confirm your exact allowance, as it can vary by airline, but we guarantee you'll get a minimum of 20kg per person for hold luggage.
How much does it cost to upgrade to All Inclusive?
The All Inclusive drinks package costs £20 per person, per night. You can add this at the time of booking, or if you want to add it later, you can call us on 0203 451 2688 and we'll add it on for you. You can upgrade once you’re onboard, too.
Onboard
What time is check-in?
You can board the ship as soon as your transfer from the airport arrives and we'll do our best to make sure your cabin is ready when you get there. If it's not, you'll only need to wait a short time and we'll let you know when it’s ready. In the meantime, you'll be able to use all the facilities onboard while you wait.
If you've opted for a cruise-only holiday, with no flights or transfers included, then check-in is from 2pm until two hours before you set sail.
What time is check-out?
We ask that you leave your cabin by 9am, but you can still use all the facilities onboard until your transfer arrives for the journey home.
Is Wi-Fi available onboard?
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the ship. Please note that Wi-Fi speeds may vary.
What currency is used onboard, and how do I pay for things?
Everything onboard is priced in Euros. Our river cruise ships are cashless and you can charge everything you buy onboard to your cabin account. Accounts are opened when you board the ship and can be settled by cash or credit/debit card when you check-out.
Can I bring electrical items onboard?
In your cabin, personal grooming items such as hairdryers, travel irons, curling tongs, hair straighteners and shavers are allowed when used with proper caution. However, if they pose a hazard, they’ll be removed and returned to you on the last day of the cruise before disembarkation. We also ask that all electrical equipment is turned off when you leave the cabin and not left on charge. You may bring a four-way adapter or extension lead onboard, but we ask that you let our team know so they can be tested for safety.
Do the cabins have tea and coffee-making facilities?
Every cabin comes with free tea and coffee-making facilities, and there’s a free tea and coffee station in the Atrium as well.
Is there a formal night onboard a TUI River Cruise?
We don’t have a formal night, however there’s a gala dinner once per week on sailings of five nights or more. You can get your glad rags on if you like but there’s no obligation to do so.
Shore experiences
How do I book a river cruise shore experience?
Once your shore experiences are available to book, we'll send you an email to let you know. You'll then be able to access our experience website, and view and book experiences and attractions for your cruise. If you prefer, you can call our team on 0203 451 2688 to book over the phone.
What information is required to book a river cruise shore experience?
To book a TUI River Cruise shore experience, you'll need to have completed your booking already. You'll need your holiday booking reference, cruise start date and lead passenger surname.
For selected experiences, you may be required to provide additional information – this will be requested from you onboard if necessary. Please ensure you read all the information relating to the experiences you have chosen.
Health and safety, and special assistance
Are TUI River Cruise ships suitable if I have reduced mobility or use a wheelchair?
Unfortunately, our river cruises are not wheelchair-friendly, and there are no lifts onboard. If you're unable to walk unaided up and down flights of stairs, then a TUI River Cruise may not be suitable for you, as the facilities are spread across different floors on the ship. If you need any advice on accessibility, medical care and onboard facilities, give our River Cruise Team a call on 0203 451 2688, and they’ll be happy to help.
Will my dietary needs be catered for on a TUI River Cruise?
If you've got any dietary requirements, let us know when you book by contacting our River Cruise Team on 0203 451 2688. Then, once you're onboard, just let the Maître d’ know.
We can provide vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free and diabetic-friendly options on request. If you need to bring your own food for medical reasons, please let us know in advance so we can ensure we have the correct facilities in place to store and prepare this.
There may be some requests we aren't able to accommodate, so it's important you let us know when you book your cruise.
If you have more specific dietary needs, or need particular food brands or varieties, we'd recommend you bring them with you. For restrictions on foods you can't take into certain destinations, please take a look at the FCO website.
Can I take medical equipment on a river cruise?
Yes, however, if your device needs to be plugged in for it to work, you'll need to sign a disclaimer before you travel.
If you need help completing the form, please call our River Cruise Team on 0203 451 2688. Don't forget, TUI River Cruises aren't wheelchair-friendly and there are no lifts onboard. If you're unable to walk unaided up and down flights of stairs then a TUI River Cruise may not be suitable for you.
Do TUI River Cruises cater for customers who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind or visually impaired?
Customers with sensory impairments are welcome, but please be aware that access to the facilities onboard, gangway access, and tenders ashore can be difficult. We recommend that anyone who is hard of hearing or has vision impairments should always be accompanied by a fit and able companion to guide and assist them. However, if someone particularly wishes to travel alone, they can speak to our Assisted Travel Team on 0203 451 2688 who will assess the risk based on individual requirements.
If there’s anything else you’d like to know, head over to our FAQs page or call our River Cruise Team 0203 451 2688.
