Dubbed as the theme park that will ‘bring Hollywood to the desert’, Motiongate™ Dubai is on course to open in October 2016 – so you can start planning your getaway right now.
It’s set to offer 27 movie-themed attractions across 5 zones, including rides based on The Hunger Games, Ghostbusters, Kung Fu Panda, The Smurfs and many more. The innovative park is even designed to keep you cool in the heat – with 21 attractions based indoors – and will be open all year round. Best of all, it’s located right next to the port town Jebel Ali, where you can stay if you book a cruise & stay package with us.
Excited much? Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the construction of the park and what the rides will look like once they’re finished.
It wouldn’t be a theme park without a few big white-knuckle rides, and Motiongate™ is set to have some huge high-speed rollercoasters which fully immerse you in the movie settings.
There’s the Capitol Bullet Train which launches you backwards, forwards and upside down to recreate Katniss’ journey to the Capitol in The Hunger Games, the crazy circus-themed Madgascar Mad Pursuit, and the Green Hornet rollercoaster which has been aptly described as a ‘fast, fast, fast’ high speed chase. Those who love Disney’s Tower of Terror will also rate the gory Zombieland ride which includes a huge 58-metre freefall drop.
A hefty dose of movie magic brings some of Motiongate’s attractions to life in the form of 3D motion simulators and immersive reality rides. The Panem Aerial Tour immerses you in The Hunger Games world with a soaring tour of the Capitol and an epic battle scene. Underworld 4D is a multi-sensory experience that puts you right in the middle of a war between Vampires and Lycans, and Kung Fu Panda: Unstoppable Awesomeness is a 4D theatre experience full of special effects. And finally, if you ain’t afraid of no ghosts, you’ll love Ghostbusters: Battle for New York – a classic shooter ride where you show off your ghostbusting skills and rescue the city.
If you don’t have a head for heights or speed – there are plenty of gentler family-friendly attractions. A river expedition based on the film Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs takes you into the heart of a lush jungle and food world. There’s also swinging boats and dragon gliders in the How To Train Your Dragon area and a spinning tea cup ride based on Kung Fu Panda. Little ones will love the huge Smurfs Village area which includes cute mushroom-topped houses, Smurf characters and five new attractions including a soft-play area, theatre show and interactive ride.
Motiongate™ will open no fewer than nine restaurants to match the movie-themed areas and offer all kinds of cuisine. You’ll find Mr Ping’s Noodle Shop near the Kung Fu Panda attractions, classic American dishes at Slimer’s Diner near the Ghostbusters ride, and the Very Smurfy Café nestled in amongst the Smurf houses. For lunch and laughs try out King Julian’s Side Show Café or, if you’re after a quick snack, you can grab some takeaway baked goods from the Supporting Rolls bakery – get it?
