Universal’s Toothsome Chocolate Emporium has officially opened with a booklet-thick menu of cocoa-infused meals and elaborate chocolate milkshakes to try. Here’s what you need to know about Florida’s very own Willy Wonka-style chocolate emporium.
Universal’s Toothsome Chocolate Emporium is a 19th-century steampunk restaurant located on Universal’s Citywalk, right in the middle of Islands Of Adventure and Universal Studios. And in true theme park-style everything is amazingly themed, of course. There are characters in costume who interact with guests, an entire backstory which you can read in the menu, and a factory-style décor with working gears, cocoa beans running through pipes and funky black and gold machinery. Even the toilets are steampunk-themed.
The huge emporium runs over two floors and has a dining area, an upstairs bar, a chocolate counter and a gift shop selling everything from merchandise to macaroons.
You can opt for a three-course sit down meal or head straight for the quick service counter and grab a shake or sundae. Starters and mains include everything from burgers to brisket with wild mushroom and many of the options are infused with cocoa, too. There’s chocolate almond bread served with salted caramel butter, black and tan onion rings served with a cocoa ranch dipping sauce, and even gnocchi tossed in mole sauce with chocolate and cinnamon.
Dessert is of course the main event here – you might need a ladle to scoop out the contents of those humongous sundaes and OTT milkshakes. Peanut Indulgence Milkshake is topped with chunks of Reece’s peanut butter cups and bits of Snickers, Red Velvet Milkshake has an entire cupcake wedged into the top and Heavenly Hazelnut is brimming with Nutella ice cream, Nutella and mountains of hazelnut-topped whipped cream. If you’re feeling particularly daring or just like your milkshakes bacon-y, go for the Bacon Brittle which is made with chocolate-covered bacon, bacon caramel and bacon ice cream.
Upstairs in the bar, the chocolate theme carries on with a range of cocoa-based cocktails. There’s the delectable-sounding Vanilla Chocolate Cocktail made with Madagascar vanilla vodka and chocolate bitters, and Wicked Cherry made from rum, cherry liqueur and chocolate bitters. Terry’s Chocolate Orange fans will also love the Old Chocolate Fashion which infuses chocolate whiskey and orange bitters.
The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium had its grand opening in September so you can visit right now. It’s the perfect place to grab a milkshake or two after a fun day at the parks. And if you’re staying at one of Universal’s resorts, Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort, Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Orlando or Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando, you’ll be able to nip in for as many chocolate treats as you fancy.
