Ibiza closing parties are the biggest events of the whole Ibiza season. You’d think clubbers would dread the end of the White Isle’s long, hot summer, but the silver lining is these huge nights, where the biggest names play the biggest bangers to the most up-for-it crowds. After all, they’re a send-off to the world’s best clubbing scene for one whole year - of course they’re going to be epic.
All of the big club nights will have their own closing party, usually in September. These are our picks of the places to be when Ibiza waves goodbye to its 2017 season. It’s your last chance - go hard, then go home.
And don’t worry, although the island is jam-packed this year thanks to a surge in popularity, we’ve picked out the best spots that still have rooms for September.
What: Singer Craig David’s transformation from has-been to party-starter, following big sets at Notting Hill Carnival and legendary London club Fabric, is bordering on modern-day fairy tale – a sort of 21st century, reverse frog-prince of garage, perhaps. Far from chillin’ on Sunday, Craig’s residency at Ibiza Rocks will be revving up ‘the day of rest’ all summer. It ends with this all-dayer, which the comeback kid himself describes as bringing “the vibe of my Miami house parties and the craziness of my East London nights” to the Ibiza Rocks poolside.
When:Thursday, September 21st, 1pm onwards
Where: Snag a room at the budget-friendly Sunshine Apartments which is right in the heart of San Antonio. Book today for a discount of up to 50% off.
What: Legendary club Cream, voted ‘Best Club of the Last 25 Years’ by readers of music magazine Mixmag, brings back its residency at Amnesia with a very special opening and closing night guest – Fatboy Slim. It’s the DJ-also-known-as-Norman Cook’s first ever Ibiza residency and, if that wasn’t enough to pull in the crowds, his co-headliner on closing night is Grammy-winning Paul Van Dyk. Missing this would be like going to Paris and not bothering to sneak a peek at the Eiffel Tower.
When: Thursday, September 21st, midnight onwards
Where: Amnesia isn’t far from Ibiza’s main party beach, Playa d'en Bossa, which is packed with cheap-and-cheerful crash pads our upmarket party-hard hotels from our Scene collection. Check out our selection of Playa d'en Bossa hotels.
What: Battling the myth that Ibiza is only for electro heads, Ibiza Rocks brings big guitar bands, hip-hop and more to its live stage. It ends 2016 with an exciting line-up of The Kooks, Fickle Friends and Patrick Nazemi. If you have to say goodbye to the White Isle, you might as well say it LOUD.
When: Tuesday, September 5, 7pm onwards
Where: If you don’t stay at Ibiza Rocks itself but need to crash close by, pick the self-catered Sunshine Apartments which is close to all the action.
What: Another institution taking on Ibiza’s EDM monopoly is one-man empire Tinie Tempah. He’s scored a regular party, Disturbing Ibiza, at top open-air spot Ushuaïa, and will be smearing some grime over electronic music on a handful of dates over summer. His Disturbing Ibiza Closing Party promises to unleash a full-force Tempah for one last al fresco blowout.
When: Friday, September 15, 5pm onwards
Where: It’s back to Playa d'en Bossa for this one and, if you want something chilled and simple, the Scene Hub Algarb Hotel should see you meeting plenty of like-minded party people.
What: Ministry of Sound’s VIP playlist will be filling the dance floor at glitterati favourite Ocean Beach, one of San Antonio’s glammest beach clubs, all summer. Helmed by decks veteran DJ Spoony, the closing party brings together the Balearics’ most beautiful people for one last R&B, hip-hop and house-fuelled rave-up. One for the glamour-pusses.
When: Thursday, September 28, 12pm onwards
Where: A stylish party deserves a stylish stay. Hotel Brisa from our Scene collection is located five minutes from the beach and San Antonio’s clubs, putting you in the perfect spot.
What: Hi Ibiza is the new club on the block for 2017, replacing the much-loved Space. The hipster-esque venue combines a modern, state-of-the-art look with quirky features like an outdoor slide and glow in the dark trees. The In The Dark party embraces the underground and techno scene, with a line-up that includes Ibiza regulars Steve Lawler, Joris Voorn and Anek. One for the serious music buffs.
When: Thursday, September 28, starts at midnight
Where: The All Inclusive adults-only Club Bahamas in Playa d’en Bossa is a stylish and comfortable hotel to recover from those nights out. Or, pick the self-catered Ibiza Sun which is within walking distance of Hi Ibiza and boasts a stylish pool scene.
What: You might have heard of David Guetta – he’s had a few hits. About 30 million singles sold worldwide, actually. And people call him ‘The Grandfather of EDM’. So it sounds like he might be quite good. But let’s be serious – this Pacha party is going to be MASSIVE. It’s already one of the most popular of the lot, and not only will Guetta will be going out with a bang, he’s being supported by Afrojack and Robin Schulz, too. Make sure you’re there when it all goes off.
When: Thursday, October 5th, midnight onwards
Where: Get a great deal at the Mar Y Vent or Marian hotel from our Scene collection – both are walking distance from the strip. Or, pick the Glafi Hotel which is surrounded by gardens and makes a relaxing, chilled-out base.
