Tangier City Tour

Arranged like an amphitheatre on the Strait of Gibraltar, Tangier’s a bustling port on one of the world’s most important waterways. Known as the White City, the first thing you’ll notice about the place is the jumble of white houses that huddle around the port - that and the skyline of Christian spires and Muslim minarets which hint to its fascinating past. This trip kicks off with a drive to visit the Kasbah's Museum. An exotic mix, highlighting Morocco’s history, art and antiquities discovered in Roman sites. Your next stop is the lighthouse at Cap Spartel on the extreme north promontory of Africa. On a clear day, you can see the extraordinary meeting point of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Then it’s time to head back to Tangier for a visit to the Kasbah, the fortified citadel within the old town. You’ll also see Mendoubia park, the vibrant fruit and vegetable market and the city’s throbbing heart, the Grand Socco, a huge marketplace that echoes with the shouts of haggling merchants. Of course, no visit would be complete without a trip to the medina, a labyrinth of tiny streets crammed with shops at the petit socco.

Tetouan

The city of Tetouan is set in the dramatic greenery of the Rif Mountains and the colour-drenched Martil Valley. Here, a belt of orchards, planted with orange, almond, pomegranate and cypress trees, is studded with dazzling white houses. Locals affectionately call their city ‘The Daughter of Granada’ as the architecture here’s heavily dominated by the Hispanic influence. It’s hardly surprising – the city was built by Muslim refugees from Spain in the 15th-century, and expanded by the Spanish government in the 20th-century. Arriving here, your day begins at the main city gate, Bab el Okla. From here, it’s up to the quaint medina, one of the most fascinating in Morocco. Carry on to the Souk el Hots, with its traditional fabric shops, and stop at the Place de l’Usàa, for a look at the impressive buildings. Finally, you’ll view the outside of the King Palace, a great example of Hispano-Moresque architecture, before it’s time to head back to the ship.

Lisbon Panoramic

If you want to enjoy Lisbon’s sights from the comfort of a coach, this is the trip for you. It’s a full sightseeing tour that doesn’t involve any legwork. First up is the Belem Tower, a Medieval turret that’s become a symbol of Portugal. Perched on the banks of the Tagus River, its fairytale looks disguise its original role as a fort. Moving on, you’ll stop for photos at the Discoveries Monument, created in 1960 to mark the 500th anniversary of the death of Prince Henry the Navigator. Next, you’ll head for the spectacular Jeronimos Monastery, next, where you can capture its beautiful exteriors on camera. From here, your journey will take you past the manicured Edward VII Park and the tree-shaded Avenida da Liberdade, before you stop for a breather at the fountain-speckled Rossio Square. The final stop of the day is the enormous riverside plaza, Comercio Square. Check out its beautiful arcades, triumphal arch and statue of King Jose I before you head back to ship.

Sintra & Cascais

If you make only one trip from Lisbon, Sintra should be top of your list. Portuguese royalty and English nobility have long had a love affair with the place, and the thick forests and surrealist architecture are a real contrast from urban Lisbon. Your first stop is Cascais, a traditional fishing port and a bustling holiday resort. You’ll stop briefly to take some photos, before carrying on to Sintra. Take a look at the Sintra National Palace, the summer home of the Kings of Portugal for six centuries. Then, wander round the ceramic and embroidery shops that you’ll find dotted here and there. Or just pick a pretty pavement café and enjoy a cool drink in the hot sun.

Lisbon by Eco Tuk Tuk

Today, you’ll hop into an environmentally friendly tuk-tuk for a tour around the City of Seven Hills. Not only are the tuk-tuks 100 per cent electric, they’re also small enough to zip around the city’s tree-lined avenues and narrow backstreets. Sights along the way include the gothic-style Jerónimos Monastery, the chess piece-like Belém Tower, and the São Jorge Castle that overlooks the city from its hilltop perch. In the Chiado area, you’ll come across dinky boutiques and old-world cafés, plus there’ll be a chance to taste bica, the Portuguese answer to espresso. The district of Alfama, the oldest in Lisbon, is on the agenda, too. You’ll trundle through cobblestone streets past its string of bars playing traditional Portuguese music called fado.

If your holiday mantra is ‘busy doing nothing’, you’ll love this trip to Lanzarote’s most popular beach resort, Puerto del Carmen. This is one of the few places on the island that doesn’t close down for siesta – its sandy beaches, shops, cafés and bars buzz with life round the clock. Pick up some souvenirs, stock up on your duty frees or simply laze away the day in the sunshine, the choice is yours. It’s a fun, half day trip that’s spot on if you’re ready to relax.

Rancho Texas Park

Like animals? Then you’ll love Rancho Texas, Lanzarote’s very own conservation centre and modern zoo. There are over 50 animal enclosures, so you’ll meet crocodiles, tortoises, sea lions and plenty more on this tour. And you can watch some of them in action in four different themed shows. Where else can you see giant majestic eagles swooping inches above your head, or spot a parrot on roller skates? Add that to a gold mine, and plenty of children’s play areas – and you’ve got a real something-for-everyone day out. Plus, bringing the American theme to the table, you’ll get a Texas burger and fries to tuck into for lunch. Perfect munchies when you’re on the go.

4x4 Adventure

Buckle up for this adrenaline-pumping tour. You’ll board a 4x4 and travel on and off-road, trundling by sleepy villages, idyllic beaches and rugged mountains. On the first leg of the journey you’ll pass through traditional villages, colourful fields and palm groves on route to Tindaya. This whitewashed village spreads beneath volcanic Mount Tindaya, which locals say attracts witches and strange phenomena. The mountain was once used for religious worship and footprints left by Fuerteventura’s original Guanche inhabitants have been discovered on its slopes. Next, you’ll rumble past remote beaches en route to El Cotillo, a rustic fishing village flanked by windswept coves and lagoons. This makes it the perfect stop and if there's time, why not take a quick dip? On the home straight, we’ll pass the island’s famous sand dunes. Their awe inspiring golden sands backed with the turquoise water is the perfect place to stop for a photo before we return to the ship.

Scenic Mount Teide

In 1998 this place welcomed nearly four million visitors, outnumbering any other National Park in Spain. And it’s easy to see why. Shooting into the sky at an enormous 12,402 feet, Mount Teide in Las Canadas National Park is Tenerife's most famous landmark and the highest mountain in Spain. You’ll pass through the lush Esperanza forest, too, with its cool eucalyptus glades. The landscape starts to change the further you go, ending up with the well known volcanic surface.
