In Focus: Hotel Sol La Palma
The Hotel Sol La Palma is no one-trick pony. Stay here, and you can take advantage of scenic surroundings, a great pool scene and plenty more besides...
This hotel scores big points when it comes to location. It’s in a quiet area on the outskirts of Puerto Naos, an easy 15-minute walk from the town’s restaurants and boutiques. The property is backed by mountains and haloed by a glossy banana plantation, plus there’s a black-sand beach right on the doorstep.
You’ll find a couple of pools just metres from the black sandy beach. Shade comes courtesy of a few palm trees, and there are loungers to lie back on. Alternatively, head for the state-of-the-art spa. All soft music and lighting, it’s the perfect place to wind down with a body wrap, massage treatment or facial. You can keep in touch with the world with the hotel’s wifi, at a small cost.
International dishes are laid on in the buffet restaurant, so you can try a different type of cuisine each day. Italian favourites like pizza and pasta line up next to Mediterranean seafood specialities. And the themed nights are brilliant – Asian foods will take over one evening, while Canarian specialities reign the next. For light bites like sandwiches and salads, there’s a thatched bar with an open-air seating area.
Rooms have been designed in an island style. Think tiled floors, wicker armchairs, and walls the colour of burnt orange. The balcony view is the best bit, though – you’ll either look out towards the Atlantic Ocean or La Palma’s green-coated mountains. And if you don’t fancy venturing out, hideaway in your room and order from the delicious room service menu.
Days are anything but boring at this place – there are sporty pursuits like gym, pool games and bookable tennis courts, along with things like Spanish lessons for the adults. There’s also live music in the evening, perfect to dance the night away to. Smaller guests are treated to a packed schedule of fun, too, featuring group activities like t-shirt painting and sports activities.
