Every four years, Greeks would cease any hostility between each other to celebrate and honour the games and the gods.

The gateway to the Meteora peaks, Kalambaka is a cosy traditional town located in the heart of Greece. A town steeped in history, Kalambaka’s origins date back to ancient Greece under the name Aeginio. It would later become an important religious centre where its first cathedrals and churches were built. During the Ottoman Empire, the town received its current name 'Kalambaka' meaning 'sturdy fortress' and became an important commercial hub.

The Marathon Tomb or Tumulus is one of the most significant historical sites. It marks the burial site of the Athenian soldiers who fought and died in the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC.
