Leave the beach behind and head for the hills to the mountain village of Zia for the evening. Once you're dropped off, you'll have plenty of free time to wander around and admire the scenery. Bring your camera and find yourself the best viewpoint as the sun sinks behind the hills, and bag some locally made goodies like lace tablecloths, olive oil or sticky honey. You could check out the village's Byzantine church as well. Later, as darkness falls, pull up a pew in one of Zias tavernas for dinner. Some have rooftop terraces where you can soak up the view, while you eat dinner, just as the stars come out.

How does spending a day soaking up the sunshine, swimming and perhaps a spot of lunch sound? Perfect is what we're guessing. On this Aegean cruise around northern Kos there'll be swim stops, tanning time and a visit to Vathi on Kalymnos island. A picturesque, horseshoe-shaped bay with calm waters and a pretty town, it's the ideal place for some exploring. We'll drop into a typical Kalymnos taverna for a lunch of pork souvlaki, rice, potatoes, Greek salad and tzatziki. The vegetarian option has spaghetti with tomato sauce and Greek salad. There's something really special about this trip to northern Majorca – the way in which you go sightseeing is part of the adventure. Hop on the century-old Soller train and zigzag your way through the pine-clad and UNESCO-listed Tramuntana Mountains. There's also a trip on a tram linking Soller and Port de Soller, during which you'll pass through orange groves and narrow tracks behind homes. The journey from Port de Soller to Sa Calobra beach is – weather permitting – by catamaran.

Fancy cruising Zante's waters in search of its most famous residents – loggerhead sea turtles. Cast out to sea and you'll pass by the golden beaches of Vassilikos before sailing towards Marathonisi, a pine-clad islet nicknamed ‘Turtle Island'. Keep a look out for loggerheads and for dolphins, too. Next, you'll cruise to the Keri peninsula and drop anchor for a swim stop. Come ashore and there's free time to explore the small village of Keri. On the return cruise there's a chance to swim in a hidden bay and you may even spot some more turtles. The sunshine and laidback Mediterranean feel of Cyprus are what visitors the world over come to enjoy, and this half-day BBQ cruise lets you do just that. If there's one must-visit while you're in Kos, it's the volcanic island of Nisyros. Once you've docked in the harbour of Mandraki, the island's capital, you'll head to Nikia on the edge of the Stefanos crater. Lose yourself in the labyrinth of cobbled stoned lanes or find a spot near the crater's edge, where you can feel the heat. Afterwards, head back to Mandraki. Sugar-cubed houses stretch across this amphitheatre-shaped town, which is in the shadow of a medieval castle and the cliff-side monastery of Panagia Spiliani. There'll also be time to admire the town's balconied houses or have dinner in a taverna.

If there's one must-see in Crete, it's the Palace of Knossos. The island's most popular attraction, your guide will explain the myths surrounding the palace as you explore its treasures, including the throne room, royal apartments and frescoes. And with fast-track access, there's no waiting around. In Crete's capital, Heraklion, see the Venetian lion fountain and the loggia on a guided walk around the city. You'll have free time to wander about at your own pace, shop at the market, walk round the harbour walls or visit the 16th century Venetian fortress.

Smuggler's Cove is a picture-postcard white pebble beach with a surprise – a shipwreck from an alleged smuggler who ran ashore in 1980. After pick-up, head by coach to Porto Vromi – it takes about 90 minutes – and hop on a boat towards Smuggler's Cove. Enjoy some free time to visit the famous beach, admire the scenery and take a few Insta-perfect selfies. Then, as we cruise back towards Porto Vromi, you'll discover Stegnitis Bay, a place so secret it dosen't even show up on Google. Cool off with a swim stop here and take some pics.
