This elegant town is nestled on the banks of the Tormes and boasts history with a touch of finesse, textbook Spain. Salamanca has an ancient past dating back to pre-roman times. It became a Roman settlement after its former Carthaginian occupation. But the city really started to thrive in the 11th century when the Moors brought about a period of splendour. Architecture, culture and elegance started to really kick in during the Renaissance period.

Small but lively Valladolid is an attractive city to explore, its compact centre filled with numerous historical monuments and excellent cultural sights. Visit the National Sculpture Museum, which features some of the country's most impressive and important works, marvel at the grand 16th century Cathedral and stop at the Plaza Mayor for an atmospheric afternoon pick-me-up. Authentically Spanish in character, Valladolid comes to life in the evenings where the student population pours out of its bars.

This cathedral town is perched on the Way of St. James. Medieval-style architecture, gothic churches and well-kept parks encompass Burgos' charm. A town veiled in legend, Burgos is the home to Spanish knights and history-drenched corners. Founded in 884 C.E., the town quickly became Castille's capital boasting a thriving community and commercial centre. It would later serve as an important pilgrim's pitstop on the Camino de Santiago. Burgos is also the final resting place for a local Spanish hero, El Cid.
