Southern Namibia: from Fish River Canyon to Sossusvlei

Important Remarks

For all self-drive tours in Namibia, we strongly recommend booking at least a sturdy SUV or 4×4 vehicle. This is essential given the condition of gravel roads and off‑road tracks across the country. Many regions are remote, with limited mobile phone coverage, and unsuitable vehicles are more prone to flat tires or breakdowns. Choosing a robust vehicle greatly reduces the risk of delays and ensures a safer, more comfortable, and enjoyable travel experience.

If the SUV or 4x4 option is not displayed by default, please check the available vehicle types and manually select a suitable vehicle during the booking process.

Important Remarks

When choosing accommodation in the Sossusvlei area, please note the important difference in location between Sesriem and Solitaire.
Lodges in Sesriem are located close to the entrance of Namib-Naukluft National Park, offering easy access to the dunes.
Accommodations around Solitaire are often set in beautiful, remote desert locations and are generally about one hour’s drive from the park entrance, plus additional driving inside the park to reach Sossusvlei.
Staying near Solitaire offers stunning scenery and great value, but you should be aware of the longer driving times when selecting your accommodation.
