For all self-drive tours in Namibia, we strongly recommend booking at least a sturdy SUV or 4×4 vehicle. This is essential given the condition of gravel roads and off‑road tracks across the country. Many regions are remote, with limited mobile phone coverage, and unsuitable vehicles are more prone to flat tires or breakdowns. Choosing a robust vehicle greatly reduces the risk of delays and ensures a safer, more comfortable, and enjoyable travel experience.
If the SUV or 4x4 option is not displayed by default, please check the available vehicle types and manually select a suitable vehicle during the booking process.
When choosing accommodation in the Sossusvlei area, please note the important difference in location between Sesriem and Solitaire.
Lodges in Sesriem are located close to the entrance of Namib-Naukluft National Park, offering easy access to the dunes.
Accommodations around Solitaire are often set in beautiful, remote desert locations and are generally about one hour’s drive from the park entrance, plus additional driving inside the park to reach Sossusvlei.
Staying near Solitaire offers stunning scenery and great value, but you should be aware of the longer driving times when selecting your accommodation.
Discover the breathtaking contrasts of Namibia on this unforgettable tour. From the cosmopolitan capital Windhoek to the towering red dunes of Sossusvlei where sunrises are magical. Admire Africa's largest gorge in the impressive Fish River Canyon and spot wild desert horses near Aus. The Kalahari Desert with its golden plains and adapted wildlife awaits you. A perfect blend of natural wonders and authentic experiences in one of Africa's most fascinating countries.

When collecting your rental car, make sure it's equipped with at least one good spare tire and all the tools needed to change a flat. Ensure the tires are in good condition and check the tire pressure regularly. Choosing a robust vehicle with extra spare tires will help prevent delays and ensure a safer, more enjoyable journey.
A two-night stay in Aus offers the perfect base to explore some of southern Namibia's most fascinating highlights.
Just outside town, a visit to the Garub waterhole offers the chance to see the famous Namib Desert wild horses.
A visit to Kolmanskop, the iconic ghost town slowly reclaimed by the desert, is highly recommended. Wandering through its sand-filled buildings offers a unique glimpse into Namibia’s diamond mining past and is one of the most photogenic sites in the country. From Kolmanskop, continue to the coastal town of Lüderitz, known for its colourful colonial architecture and dramatic Atlantic coastline. Highlights include its colourful colonial architecture, historic harbour and the scenic drive around the Diaz Point peninsula, where you may spot penguins, seals and seabirds along the rugged Atlantic coast. After a day of exploration, return to Aus to enjoy its peaceful desert surroundings and wide-open landscapes.
