Florence ZTL - important advise before entering by car to Florence

We strongly recommend choosing a hotel located outside the ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato) during your stay in Florence. The ZTL is a restricted traffic zone covering the entire historic center, where access is controlled by automated cameras. The Florence ZTL is the strictest in Italy. Only vehicles with prior authorization may enter. Unauthorized entry, even accidental, leads to substantial fines, which are automatically issued and enforced internationally.

For visits into the city center, we advise using public transportation (tram, train, or bus). Florence offers efficient and frequent connections from surrounding districts. This avoids the challenges of city-center driving, prevents unexpected penalties, reduces traffic pressure in the UNESCO-protected old town, and ensures a relaxed, sustainable travel experience.
