Johannesburg

Johannesburg, also known as Joburg or Jozi, is the beating heart of South Africa and a city that never stands still. This dynamic metropolis emerged during the 19th-century gold rush and grew into the country's economic and cultural centre. You'll discover a fascinating mix of past and present here: from the impressive Apartheid Museum and historic Soweto to trendy neighbourhoods like Maboneng and Rosebank. The city buzzes with creativity, featuring street art, lively markets and a thriving culinary scene. Johannesburg sits on the highveld and offers a pleasant climate with plenty of sunny days. From the city, you can easily take trips to the Cradle of Humankind, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or to wildlife parks in the surrounding area. Joburg surprises you with its energy, hospitality and authentic South African spirit.

Important Remarks

Maintenance work on the Table Mountain cable car takes place every year between the end of July and the beginning of September. (Check the cable car website for the exact period: https: //www.tablemountain.net )During this period, it is not possible to reach the summit of Table Mountain by cable car. It is possible to get there on foot, but this requires time and a good level of fitness. Alternatively, you can walk to Lion's Head, where the views are at least as good as those from Table Mountain.
