Highlights
Santiago de Chile
Surrounded by the spectacular Andes Mountains, Santiago is a vibrant capital where history, culture and modern city life come together. Explore the historic centre and Plaza de Armas, stroll through the lively neighbourhoods of Lastarria and Bellavista, and enjoy panoramic views from Cerro San Cristóbal. Santiago is also the perfect place to discover Chilean cuisine and the country’s renowned wines.
San Pedro de Atacama
A complete contrast awaits in northern Chile. The small oasis town of San Pedro de Atacama is the gateway to one of the driest and most extraordinary deserts on Earth. Discover the lunar landscapes of Valle de la Luna, colourful lagoons, vast salt flats and impressive volcanoes. Flamingos inhabit the high-altitude wetlands, while the El Tatio geysers offer an unforgettable spectacle at sunrise. After dark, the exceptionally clear desert skies make this one of the world’s great destinations for stargazing.
Altitude
San Pedro de Atacama is located at 2,400 metres above sea level, while some excursions reach altitudes of over 4,000 metres. We recommend taking it easy during your first days, drinking plenty of water and avoiding strenuous activities.
Climate & clothing
The Atacama Desert enjoys sunny days throughout the year, but temperatures can drop significantly after sunset. Pack layers, sun protection, sunglasses and comfortable walking shoes. Warm clothing is essential for early-morning and high-altitude excursions.
