Santorini Volcanic Islands Cruise

The volcanic isles of the caldera are a must-see when in Santorini. On this full-day cruise, you'll climb aboard a wooden sailboat and glide to Nea Kameni, Palea Kameni and Thirassia – the three volcanic islets that breach from the water – and continue along the edge of the caldera.First up is Nea Kameni. Hike up to its crater, striding over solidified lava fields to see its steamy fumes. Take in the views over the harsh, moon-like landscapes and Santorini in the distance. Next, you'll cruise to the thermal springs of Palea Kameni, where you'll get the chance to swim in the mineral-rich waters, which can reach temperatures of 35 °C. There's also an eminently Instagrammable Orthodox chapel by the water's edge.Head onshore to explore Thirassia and you can take a walk around its active crater, or spend some time in the hilltop village of Manolas – the views are knockout. Then, it's back on the boat to cruise along the coast, returning to Athinios port.

Santorini Volcano tours and tickets

Lunar landscapes, black volcanic sands and red cliffs make Santorini a natural gem that draws visitors to the charming island of Santorini year after year. Multiple eruptions over the years have transformed Santorini into a five-island archipelago; consisting of Santorini, Therasia and Aspronisi and the Kameni islands at the centre made of entirely black lava. This volcanic zone is the most dynamic in the South Aegean and visitors have the chance to visit the active volcanoes on the islands of Therasia and Nea Kameni – known to locals as the Volcano.

The eruption was also responsible for one of the greatest calderas in the world – the edge of a volcanic crater – now lined by traditional blue-roofed houses that mesmerise all who visit. From the caldera, stunning views across the turquoise waters and neighbouring islands can be seen and you’ll get a glimpse of the island’s geographical history. Visit the active volcanoes of Therasia and Nea Kameni and walk over its active craters, solidified lava fields and steamy fumes. Its harsh moon-like landscapes will have you feeling out of this world.

At Palea Kamei, visitors can enjoy the mineral-rich hot springs and mud baths, known for their therapeutic and healing effects. Gaze out at the wild beauty of the Santorini Caldera in the distance and feel the power of nature around you.

The meal and Sunset experience were the highlights. The history and commentary from the guide was good and interesting. The hot spring just turned out to be a swim from the boat, no really hot springs.

The trip ran very smoothly , not yo much waiting about to transfer to the boat. There was plenty of room aboard to choose your seat whether inthe shade or out on the deck in the sunshine . The commentary was informative but not drawn out. We went across to the tiny island of Thirassis to a taverna that reminded of me of how Greece was when I first visited Spetses years ago . Dinner was lovely and the sunset to celebrate Summer Solstace was magnificent .
