Colosseum Underground private tour with Arena Floor, Forum and Hill

You'll step into the world of Ancient Rome on a guided tour of the Colosseum Underground, Arena Floor, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. With access to areas usually closed to the general public, you'll explore the underground chambers where gladiators prepared for combat and wild animals were kept before entering the arena.

You'll visit the Hypogeum, the network of tunnels, corridors and chambers beneath the Colosseum. Here, you'll see parts of the original drainage system, the remains of gladiators' rooms and animal cages, and a reconstruction of the lifts that transported people and animals to the Arena Floor through a system of trapdoors.

Next, you'll step onto the Arena Floor, where gladiators once fought before thousands of spectators. Your visit continues through the first and second tiers of the Colosseum, where you'll enjoy panoramic views and learn more about the monument's history, architecture and the spectacles that took place within its walls.

The tour then takes you to the Roman Forum, the political, religious and commercial centre of the Roman Empire. As you walk amongst the remains of temples, basilicas and public buildings, your guide will bring the ancient city to life with historical insights.

You'll finish at Palatine Hill, traditionally considered the birthplace of Rome and later home to the city's emperors. Exploring this historic hill offers a deeper understanding of the origins and development of the Eternal City.
