Head south of Lisbon across the River Tagus to find Portugal’s Serra da Arrábida Natural Park. Known for its verdant hills, rugged coastline and beaches – it’s a great spot to visit for a peaceful escape. Visitors can enjoy wonderful views from the many hiking trails that cover the park. Admire a diverse range of flora and fauna along the way and look out for rare birds and wild boars.
For a dip in the sea – as well as kayaking and snorkelling – Praia Figueirinha is the biggest beach in the park and the Praia Galapos Cover is definitely worth a visit. The western side of the park is where you can appreciate the dramatic cliffs and the lighthouse at Cabo Espichel. There are even dinosaur footprints nearby.
In addition to its natural beauty, Arrabida National Park boasts a rich cultural heritage, with historic landmarks such as the Convento de Nossa Senhora da Arrábida and the Castelo de Sesimbra.
