Wild, remote and wonderfully untamed, Cofete Beach feels a world away from the island’s busy resorts. Backed by the rugged peaks of the Jandía mountains, this vast stretch of golden sand extends for more than 12 kilometres along Fuerteventura’s southwestern coast. With powerful Atlantic waves, dramatic scenery and barely a building in sight, Cofete is often considered one of the most spectacular beaches in the Canary Islands.
Getting here is part of the adventure, with a winding route leading through the mountains before revealing sweeping views of the coastline below. Once you arrive, you can walk for kilometres along the shore, take in the raw beauty of the landscape or simply enjoy the sense of space and solitude. The nearby Villa Winter has long been the subject of local legends and mystery, with stories ranging from secret wartime activities to hidden tunnels beneath the cliffs.
