This is the second time we have stayed at the Hudson hotel whilst visiting friends before flying to Nashville for route 61. The staff are so helpful and will go out of their way to try and accommodate you. The hotel is so clean and quirky and in a fabulous location. Rooms are so comfortable with lots of complimentary toiletries. Next time we are in NY we will definitely be staying at the Hudson again. Have recommended to lots of family and friends.
Upgrade if you can

We stayed in this hotel with our 1,5 year old baby comfortably. We were part of a group reservation which we didn't pay for. Looking at the reviews I was worried and went there prepared to upgrade. The rooms are indeed tired, loud and dark. But not all of them are. I would highly recommend talking face to face with the reservation staff. They were quite reasonable and upgraded us to a suite room on the 18th floor with a discount from the list price. If you have the choice, I would recommend you to upgrade, or at least move to upper floors which receive significantly more light. They provided us a refrigerator, a crib and a kettle upon our request without additional charge. In NYC there is an established tipping culture, and we took care to tip the cleaning lady 3-4-5 dollars daily (this is the first time I did such a thing in a hotel). She was kind, took care of us, and cleaned the room throughly which was important to me with the baby. So if you make the time and effort to ask for stuff and communicate with the staff who are quite professional, I think you can get a good experience in this hotel.

Firstly the positives. Great location and that’s it. This is a very overrated and ridiculously expensive hotel. Rooms are laughably small and we actually had problems sitting on the toilet because it was just so small. Last night we were treated to a screeching noise that continued unabated through the night. We still don’t know where it’s coming from. Reception staff were friendly enough but bar staff surly and unhelpful. Good and drink are ridiculously overpriced and pretty average. We won’t be back
Location and lobby, but other than that...what is the facility fee for?

There are no facilities that justify a "facility fee". The rooms were tiny, cramped, tired-looking, old loud air conditioner. With the narrow hallways and green doors I cringed with what I imagine might be a ward of some institutional kind. Just one that happened to have a really nice lobby to pass through on the way back and forth to the room, but small reprieve for the room quality. The "facility fee" seems a dishonest ploy as they had no facilities worth an extra charge. Saving grace was being able to escape to Central Park quickly, as well as head down to Broadway theaters.
Five nights in NYC

Let me start off saying that always always ALWAYS make your own mind up and don’t always believe negative reviews. My fifth time in NYC and first time staying at this hotel. After looking at reviews I was apprehensive about staying but knew that I should be fine staying in this hotel as I know how small New York rooms can be. The room itself was a normal New York City size, small but enough room for a couple to move around and be able to get ready in. The decor was cool and quite a hipster and cool vibe. The bathroom was small but was fine for what it was. My partner and I have both lived and worked on cruise ships so are used to small and cramped spaces so we are always fine with smaller rooms. The only downside I would say about the room is that because the hotel was nearby Central Park, and we went in a high pollen month and my allergies and hayfever were a lot worse than I thought they would be, but this was made worse because the window we had had a little gap which couldn’t be closed properly which meant it let all pollen in, making sleeping and general getting ready time a bit more sneezy, but didn’t ruin the holiday at all, I just needed to invest in more tissues! The hotel is situated by Columbus Circle and there is a subway station there, which a lot of lines pass through which is handy. This is pretty close to Times Square which to me is the hub and centre of New York. It is walkable but we usually used the subway. We never really needed to converse with the hotel staff much, we had a hairdryer in the room which didn’t work and I did tell the lobby staff to see if they could replace it, which they said they would but unfortunately it wasn’t. I did have my own but the wattage meant it couldn’t work to full capacity but just continued to use my own. Staff were friendly whenever we spoke to them and although the hairdryer wasn’t replaced, were friendly regardless. The lobby was pretty cool and pretty hipster too, there were other parts of the hotel like restaurants and bars that we could use but we didn’t ever have time to explore. All in all we were both happy with our stay here, and probably would return.
