Holidays to Playa Conchal take you off the beaten path, to one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful beaches.
A non-conformist beach
Playa Conchal translates as ‘Shell Beach’. And once you step foot on its sands, you’ll see why. Instead of golden grains, the perfect curve is made of ground up shells and corals that’ve washed up over millions of years, resulting in an iridescent pink-and-white glow. It’s also unlike other Pacific Coast beaches in that its waters are almost transparent, which makes Playa Conchal a hit with snorkellers.
Playa Conchal occupies an idyllic spot on Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast, between the more popular resorts of Playa Flamingo and Playa Tamarindo. There’s nothing more than a handful of hotels and some beachfront condos in the area, meaning it’s really quiet. Better still, the striking beach is pretty much all yours.
Nearby towns and villages
Even though Playa Conchal is perfectly peaceful, and can feel cut off from the rest of the region, you’re never far from civilisation. A 10-minute stroll along the beach brings you to Brasilito, an authentic fishing village. And the more developed Tamarindo is just a half-hour drive away.
