Staff are the only saving grace

Food was abysmal, had to eat out all the time. Pool area dirty. Rooms badly cleaned. Poorly managed hotel.
Only good thing to say about the place was how good the bar and entertainment staff were.
Don't trust the Tui reps if you complain, they just pay you lip service.
Good but not 4 star worthy.

Me and my boyfriend arrived at the beginning of September. We originally booked a pool view room as specified to the Tui staff when we booked so we were surprised to see a shared balcony overlooking the road outside when we first went into our room. This was quickly rectified and we were actually moved a day later. The rooms are actually really nice and modern and cleaned everyday. Our front door didn’t close on its own we had to really push it so I would advise checking your door before you leave the room just incase.
The food is just typical all inclusive food, no it’s not amazing Michelin star standard but it wasn’t disgusting. There was a Chinese night while we were there that had a lovely selection. We were there 11 nights so yes it did get repetitive having chips/burgers on every lunch and tea. But to be honest, we didn’t really care that much and treated ourselves to meals out a couple of times. The dining room staff were nice to us, sometimes our plates didn’t get collected for a while and they’d be piling up beside us as we’d go on to dessert. The food mostly had labels, some did, some didn’t which was a bit annoying, sometimes it’d just say “pork” or “chicken” it wasn’t very specific but I know people asked the chef many times and he was happy to help. They have like 6 toasters plugged in which I’ve never seen in a hotel before and you just have to find a free toaster and wait there so that gets a bit busy. It wasn’t too bad but I can imagine it being annoying at the busiest times when everyone wants toast.
Pool area is nice and clean however quite slippery, I did find myself trying to be careful not to slip. The slides were really good also. I actually did have an incident at the pool were a tile broke underneath my foot and my foot fell in. The lifeguard helped me and cleaned my scratches up and was really attentive, the only downside was the precautions taken from that incident, for a couple of days only a chair was placed over the broken tile and I was never asked if I wanted to fill in an accident form, I guess I’m being a bit naive thinking they would ask that but as the injuries weren’t severe I didn’t pursue it.
We didn’t have children with us, but the kids pool looked good and fun and kids were enjoying it everyday.
There was activities and things to do in and around the pool everyday like water polo etc.
The pool bar staff were lovely and jolly, the snack bar was basically just crisps, nuggets, chips and burgers, they were okay. I think there may have been salad and sandwiches but I never tried those so I’m not sure.
The reception staff were always really lovely and happy to help.
We didn’t stay at night to see the entertainment so I don’t have much to say about that.
Outside of the hotel we would recommend going to waterworld the water park, there’s a free bus at the bus station, you can buy tickets with Tui or at the ticket office there. The Barcelona city tour with Tui was great as well, we saw major attractions, had free times and travel. We also booked a romantic package scuba diving excursion with Tui which included 15 free images and a instructor just for us. It was really good and we had an amazing time underwater and we actually ended up with 50 odd images which everyone else had to pay €15 for. This was with Diving Center l’àmfora in Tossa de Mar. I would definitely speak to the TUI reps about some excursions if this is something you’re interested in.
There is also an arcade called Magic Park which we went to a lot, it was really good, quite a few games to be played, including dodgems, would be good for families. There is also a section with just adult machines as well.
Restaurants and bars we’d recommend would be:
- a Mexican called Panxos
- steakhouse called La Vaca Echada
- pizzeria called Pizza Marghe
- oriental express
-Piccadilly pub
- canaletas 1931
- Voramar beach bar
There’s so many bars, restaurants, clubs to choose from, especially on the beachfront which is too far or a walk.
Overall, we were very apprehensive to come after the many bad reviews and even seeing it in the news as a building site but it really isn’t that bad. The rooms are clean and modern, the pool is lovely and also clean, the slides are fun, the only thing that lets them down is the food possibly but it depends how fussy/bothered you are. There is lots to do outside of the hotel and the location wasn’t too bad being just 10/15 min walk from both beach and bus station. Transfer was about 30/40 mins if I remember correctly but don’t quote me on that as there was a few stops for different places and hotels.
