View All DealsHolidays to Marmaris are never one-paced. There's an old town with an Ottoman castle and lively market to dip into. But if you're more in the mood for wild watersports and all-night dancing, you'll find that's all covered, too.
Marmaris is larger than your average resort, so it’s not surprising it has so much to offer. Set on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, it’s got a smart marina and a charming old town with a historic castle, as well as all the modern restaurants, bars and lively clubs you’d expect. And, conveniently, the place also comes with a beach that lounges along the whole length of the resort.
A palm-lined prom packed with cafés, restaurants and bars runs almost the full length of Marmaris’ narrow beach, which is made up of volcanic sand and pebbles. There are plenty of sunloungers, plus the full gamut of watersports. The strip eventually joins up with Long Beach, which stretches for 10 kilometres to neighbouring Icmeler – a dolmus bus can get you there if you want a change of scene.
A trip to a traditional Turkish bath, or hammam, is virtually obligatory round these parts. Sessions usually include a steam followed by a loofah-like rubdown and a soapy massage. The oldest Turkish bath here is the 16th-century Suleymaniye Hamami, which is in walking distance of the Grand Bazaar, but many of the resort’s hotels also offer this service.
Less than an hour away by catamaran is the Greek island of Rhodes and its capital, Rhodes Town. A walking tour of the Medieval old town will tick off its top sights, the Crusader castle and cobbled Street of the Knights, along with the Greek acropolis and Roman amphitheatre. Just remember you’ll need your passport as you’ll be changing countries.
