Hotel Del Almirante

We stayed for 2 weeks and maximised the great location in which this hotel is situated to explore the surrounding areas. We knew in advance what not to expect (TV, fridge, kettle, beach towels etc) so came prepared. What we hadn't anticipated was the friendliness and efficiency of the staff and the overall conviviality of the guests. The main building oozes history, the majority of the guest rooms are in bungalow style accommodation around the small pool and gardens. These are simple rooms but wonderfully clean with twin beds, aircon and shower. We were fortunate to get a harbour view but these rooms are under the sun bathing terrace so if you like a siesta you may be disturbed by overhead noise. This did not bother us. Other rooms along the side of the pool or facing the front are much quieter I would say. Breakfast was ample. 3 types of cereal, pastries, toast, jams/honey, fruit and cheeses/charcuterie. There is one hot drinks machine so sometimes a queue for a minute or so (no hardship, you're on holiday!) but could be useful to either have an additional machine or one hot water only facility for those having tea. You can have eggs, bacon, sausage for additional cost. We had a few bar meals in the evening. These were quite adequate to fill a gap and good value. We didn't play but saw other guests making use of the tennis courts, boules and table tennis room. Some hardy souls got in the pool but a bit fresh for me. There are lots of places to sit and chill out around the hotel either with a drink from the bar which are good value or when the bar is closed 3pm-5pm bring your own drinks (a handy shop attached to the petrol garage just across the road sells drinks (alcoholic/soft), water, ice snacks etc) . There is a huge balcony in the main house you can use upstairs, or the sun terrace which overlooks the harbour or for some cool shade sit under the trees. We will definitely return here if we visit Menorca in the future. If you want easy beach access, all inclusive, entertainment laid on then this isn't for you. Otherwise a real gem of a hotel.

Wow.......!!! Having researched this place prior to booking, we are not disappointed....!!! Superb place if you like history and culture of this lovely island. People very friendly. It is ideally located between Mahon and Es Castell - @15 minutes walk each. Great place to just chill and staff will let you know of places worth visiting, and of local walks. Board is generally b&b, but there is a bookable set evening meal, or BV at meals if preferred at reasonable price. We would recommend bringing a kettle if you like tea/coffee making facilities, as none provided (thanks to this site we knew to do so....) Rooms could do with a fridge - but we improvised with a cheap bucket (from local supermarket) filled with ice . ..!!! We also hired a car, as we like to explore independently, but there is a good bus service to Mahon - stop on main road very near hotel. There is a tour every Friday morning of the house - very interesting and giving a great history to the background of the house. It probably caters for the 'more mature' client base and is definitely as described by Tui, "Small and Friendly" . Would love to visit again and thoroughly recommend...!!!

So historic and so interesting to stay here. Medium class hotel with lots of charm. Easy to reach all points of interest. Very resonably priced. Free parking. Can really recommend Menorca as a whole. Combine with Mallorca by taking the car ferry from Alcudia to Ciutadella in 1,5 hours.
