The four pools are the stars of this big hotel. And there’s a sandy beach just across the road, too.
This vast, whitewashed hotel is home to a great pool scene – there are four within the palm-filled gardens. Plus Playa de los Pocillos’ sandy beach is just across the road.
Dining is big news here, with Canarian, Mexican and Asian food among your options. The Asian place gets plaudits for its sushi. And in the evenings, entertainment ranges from cabaret to live music.

Use of Riu Class Points
Decided to use up some of our points that had mounted up over a period of time. Couldn't be easier to do, just choose the deal that suits on the Riu Class website, ring up, book, and enjoy. Chose Lanzarote because we have visited so many times, mainly to the Riu Olivina but that's changed hands now, so chose the Riu Paraiso instead. Very surprised by the quality and cleanliness of this very large hotel, Management and Staff are very helpful even down to the Pool Attendants coming round and adjusting sun umbrellas to stop people asleep getting burnt in the high temperatures. Well done Riu our expectations have been surpassed again. Ready for Dom Rep Riu in Dec now.More
Lovely stay at a lovely hotel
Ok first things first, this hotel is massive and set across two large low story buildings that were clearly once two separate hotels. The main reception in block one is joined to block two by a long walkway. The walk across the walkway from one end to the other takes around 3 / 4 minutes, not 10 / 15 as some people have said before. If you are planning on staying at this hotel and are maybe less mobile, I would suggest contacting the hotel first and asking to be in block one where the restaurants, main bar and entertainment are located. If you do stay in block two then there are other ways of reaching the restaurants, such as walking down the stairs and across the immaculately kept pool area with the swim up bar and then through the lovely hotel grounds that are also immaculate. The pool at block two is large and spread across two areas and separated by a small island. The swim up bar is a great novelty and Pedro, who is normally serving here, is excellent and very amusing. We never spent the day at the pool at block one as it seemed to be the hub of the daytime entertainment and whilst that’s fine we preferred the quieter pool. Never had a problem getting a sunbed, even though some people did put their towels on sunbeds at silly o’clock, but that’s what some people are like and all part of the holiday experience. There is a large snack bar at the pool at block two and the food there is pretty good and a wide selection of drinks. The food in the main restaurant was at first a bit hit and miss, but after a few days we realised there was always something nice to eat and when a hotel is catering for so many people every day and night you can hardly expect gourmet dining. That said the hot breakfasts were always good, with pancakes and scrambled egg being particularly good and in the evening a fresh cut of meat is normally on offer and the gravy for that was lovely. Best meal of the holiday was the Parmesan and Mushroom Risotto, which was excellent and I made a point of telling the staff that. We ate at the Asian restaurant one night out of our 11 night stay and it was nicely presented with a good selection of food, the chicken curry and the sweet and sour chicken being the highlights. Hotel room was a good size with a free safe. Bed reasonably comfortable and shower in bathroom always hot, but sometimes needed a tweak to get hot water, but I think that was down to showering at peak times. Room also offered plenty of storage and wardrobe space so we weren’t living out of suitcases. Rooms cleaned every day to a very high standard and the maids were very friendly. Entertainment at night was generally done by the in-house team and whilst it was not really our cup of tea they worked really hard and people were enjoying themselves. The bar staff in the main bar at night were a lovely bunch of people and we were impressed that after a few days they knew what drinks we normally ordered and given the hundreds of guests that were at the hotel we found that a nice touch. On the subject of drinks the Cava offered by the hotel is of a good standard. The hotels location is excellent, being right across the road from a stunning beach and within a few minutes walk of Puerto del Carmen’s centre and there are plenty of other shops and bars closer than that. There really is only one negative comment I can really make about this hotel after staying here for 11 nights, that being upon checking out at 11:00 the receptionist was very curt / bordering on rude when we asked about a courtesy room for a quick shower before airport pick up at 17:10. She advised that the courtesy room was fully booked and that there was a toilet near the main bar that offered a shower. We went to check this out and guess what, yep there wasn’t a toilet with a shower and that was confirmed by another staff member. We genuinely think the receptionist advise was given just to get rid of us, but that backfired as we returned to reception and made the receptionist aware that the facility she had offered didn’t exist. This information was greeted with a shrug of the shoulders and repeated confirmation that the courtesy room was fully booked. Please note the courtesy rooms are not actually hotel bedrooms, they are large areas on the third floor of block two that could be considered communal and could easily accommodate males and females across the rooms as long as you aren’t bashful. Fortunately our lack of shower facilities were resolved by a much more helpful member of the hotels staff, who I won’t name as I wouldn’t want to get them in trouble for being helpful and using their initiative, unlike the curt / bordering on rude receptionist. Putting that negative experience to one side, this was a very enjoyable holiday staying at a excellent hotel that tries its best to accommodate all its guests. We would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel again and I would recommend it to anyone, just don’t go here expecting The Ritz, because it’s not. It’s a very large 4 star family hotel that accommodates hundreds of people of many different nationalities and ages, but it does it really well. More
What's not to like?
After reading the mixed reviews we were shocked by the excellence of this hotel. We arrived late in the evening and were quickly booked in. We explained that we had asked for a room in the main building due to my injured knee. The request had not been met but was quickly amended and we had a wonderful room in the main block . Dinner was served to us at 10.30pm. The rooms are well laid out and very clean. The dining room is busy but the staff are so efficient that there are no issues.Food quality is excellent and varied. Bar staff are very efficient and you never had to wait for service for very long. Not sure how much alcohol there was in the local spirits but this was not an issue. The animation team are probably the best we have seen in our extensive travels. We have never stayed in the hotel on so many nights just to see the shows provided by the team. They are so professional and the comedy is fabulous. The hotel is well situated on a large beach and within easy reach of the resort centre- not that we ventured out much due to the offerings within the hotel. The staff make this hotel and unlike other hotels there does not appear to be lots of managers . The staff simply get on with the job. Well done and keep it up. We will certainly be back and would recommend others to do so.More
Very good hotel
Just returned from ClubHotel Riu Paraiso and enjoyed the holiday. We e/mailed a few days before we arrived and were given the room we asked for. Hotel very clean, room was fine plenty of wardrobe space nice balcony with pool and sea view. Staff are friendly, entertainment staff are excellent very happy but not pushy. Main restaurant good staff food was a good standard and hot, a RIU with hot plates to keep the food hot that works. Toaster slow needs putting through two or three times. Asian restaurant was very good, Mexican was not very good. Drinks were pleasant and the Cava was the best we have had in a Riu hotel. No problem getting a deckchair but are very close together and you cannot move them round to face the sun. Pleasant walking both ways on the seafront promenade or beach.More

Just had a very good week staying at this hotel ,1st of all i would say its very hard to fault this hotel lovely clean rooms nice big bed great power shower over the bath we also had a full sea view and big balcony . I've read some people on here saying its best to be in the main part of the hotel but i would disagree we were up the other end of the hotel and it was lovely and quite and the pool our end wasn't so busy . plenty of sun loungers so no getting up early to get your towel down , food was good and plenty full with good choices drink choices were good too both for adults and kids . If ( big if ) i was to be very picky then the hotel is a bit in the middle of nowhere quite a walk to nearest shops bars etc and the bars were very quiet as in no loud music ( i like loud music and i'm 61 ) also if you need to change money don't change it at the hotel complete rip off . Also we had to have a late check out 6pm they charged 45euros pretty hefty i think 20 euros if you have your room till 1pm but like i say thats being picky all in all a great hotel tho i dought i'd got there in the busy months as i think it could be very busy .More
