THB Tropical Island

We enjoyed our holiday at this hotel with our 2 year old. We had a children’s play park right outside our balcony so perfect for the little one. Rooms where clean and tidy and maid service very good. kitchenette was a little disappointing as no cooker. Bedrooms where basic but clean with nice comfy beds. hotel grounds very clean with lots of pools and plenty of sport activities. Entertainment was ok for small children but adults was pretty poor. Drinks for guests who weren’t all inclusive very expensive but we didn’t spend much time in the hotel as we like to eat out. Overall would recommend and we had a lovely family holiday

Having had many holidays I can honestly say this was the worst. We stayed all inclusive with an 11 year old and had one of our party has mobility issues. These reasons meant that our stay wasnt the best. The hotel was ok. Apartment was by a pool shared by a group of apartments. There were several identical areas in the complex so great if you had young children. There was also a large pool with a couple of slides and an adults only pool. The complex was really big and confusing at times but once we got our bearings was ok. The downsides were that it wasn't really disable friendly. The restaurant is downstairs and, depending on where you are, quite a walk. On occasions (2 I can clearly recall) the lift was broken. The toilets by the pools were also downstairs with no lift that I ever saw. There is nothing nearby to walk to unless you can walk 15 minutes (this was how fast I walked it and I walk quickly!) on a route with no rest stops. So unless you are happy to buy from the resort shop, which is also downstairs, but serviced by a lift (I didn't frequent the shop after one visit so can't comment on how reliable the lift is) then a taxi is required to get to the shops and restaurants. There is a bus twice a day at 10 and 3 from reception too. The shop is expensive as you'd expect. The food in the restaurant, that resembles a school canteen, was not to our taste. It was cooked heavily in oil. The 'freshly' cooked meat and fish were cooked in advance then reheated as required resulting in dry over cooked food. One burger I tried was burnt and rock hard. I had salmon once but it was overcooked and dry. There was plenty of fried food dripping in oil, chips, pasta and veg covered with oil/butter, plenty of fruit but a lot in syrup and an abundance of cakes, pastries and donuts. I ate cheese or egg salad most days! The plates were often wet and dirty too. So all in all not the best hotel I've ever stayed in! Some staff were as bad as the food! The main pool bar gave me full fat cola despite me asking for diet cola. Not great when I cant have sugar in my diet. I don't normally drink cola so didn't realise. The bar man was so rude he actually clapped his hands at me to hurry with my order! The lady cooking eggs at breakfast threw food on to plates resulting in a burn to my friend's hand as she 'gave' her a fried egg. Yes, we spoke to the manager. I would never expect things to improve or change by telepathy! He listened to our concerns and sent wine and fruit to our room On the upside we had a few days of sunshine! So I feel one star is how I would rate our stay but recognise that if we were able to have walked to the town each day and use the adults only area then I would have a different perception of the place. For families with young children the pools are great. The food may be to some peoples taste too. If you are willing to go out to eat or cook with the microwave and 2 ring hob then, again, you might like the hotel. The evening entertainment started at 8 with the mini disco and then two other things were on for the adults but we didn't go so can't comment.

Firstly I think the main issue with the hotel is the All Inclusive from what I read before we booked and speaking with others while we were there. Thankfully we don’t like All Inclusive and if your like us this hotel is great. The pools were lovely and clean and always lots of choice, even in the school holidays we never struggled for sun beds. The rooms also nice and clean, I will note what someone else already said about the plugs in the kitchen...there isn’t any, so needed to move the kettle and toaster to the table (minor details)! Cleaners came everyday apart from Sunday and the rooms smelt great afterwards. I always decant washing up liquid in to a small travel bottle and pack a tea towel and washing up sponge and cleaning wipes to save buying there, the only thing provided was a tea towel. The entertainment team seemed really nice and friendly. We only went to the children’s disco once...I’m sure it was fabulous but we preferred to walk out and spend our evening in the local restaurants. Children never went to the kids club but it seemed busy so a lot clearly enjoyed it. Reception were always helpful whenever we needed anything or advice. We did arrive at lunch time and could check in for 3 hours but we quickly got changed in the toilets and had a walk out for lunch. The shop...staff friendly but I did notice a few things out of date (watch out for that) also there wasn’t an awful lot of choice of fresh fruit, maybe due to being an all inclusive they felt they wouldn’t sell it but that’s the only thing that let us down for us but plenty of supermarkets in the main areas on the front. Playa Blanca...absolutely loved it here will definitely return. Walked in and out most evenings with a 4 and 6 year old. Sometimes got a taxi back from the marina, only 3 euros. Ferry to fuerteventura runs regular, nice little day trip out. Ferry was about 106euros for the 4 of us so not cheap and the crossing back was very rough but we enjoyed the change for the day. Overall for the great price with Jet2holiday I would return but only self catering again. The resort flight check in is also a huge bonus.
