We were supposed to be staying in the Hotel Vistamar which was being upgraded I won't say unfortunately because we were put in the Club Gran Canaria although we had to pay extra. Walking through the front doors the reception area is very grand staff very friendly a special mention must go too Juan Carlos and Luis two very pleasant and efficient gentlemen. Our room was on the third floor which was very nice indeed with a view from the balcony overlooking the fantastic gardens and the sea. There are 5 pools one infinity with great beds within the pool which are surprisingly comfortable, one just for kiddies with a dragon slide, an airplane slide plus a couple of other bits and pieces, two main pools and a pool on one side of the building which was quieter than the others which would be nice if it were adult only. The food in all the restaurants was very good with a lot of choice on each meal, two names to mention Augustin whom we know from the Vistamar and Sebastion such very nice guys. Have got two observations which didn't do anything to spoil our hols was the PA system in the outdoor entertainment area was very poor as if you were sat to one side one couldn't hear what was being said or sung and the other was that the same area was divided into two areas one non smoking and the other smoking and yet a few yards away was an eating area semi outside with a roof three sides with glass walls not going fully to the ceiling and a partition with bamboo plants with which they allow smoking doesn't really make sense. We had a super holiday all the same, the area of Maspalomas is lovely spotlessly clean with some great shopping if so inclined and nice bars and restaurants too.More

"Fantastic place to stay"
We have just returned from a seven night stay at this hotel, having stayed at most of the hotels in the area our expectation was very high. checking in was a breeze the reception staff were very welcoming asking us about our flight and if we had been to Gran Canaria before. The porter took our luggage to our room and we had a chilled bottle of wine waiting for us. The food was excellent fresh and plentiful, the hotel offers lots of daytime activities if you wanted to join in, We had a room with a private pool with a sea view which was fantastic for chilled days relaxing on the sun lounger. We used all of the restaurants and bars during our stay and the staff were great. we had a fantastic stay and will be back next yearMore

GREAT PLACE TO STAY
I had a room with a pool which was fantastic. It is located a few minutes from shops and bars which are all lovely. The infinity pool overlooks the sea so the location is excellent. Food was fairly good with plenty of choice. My only fault that I found was the wine in the restaurant, it was awful but other than that, no complaintsMore
Strengths and weaknesses
Just visited Club Riu for a weeks vacation. The hotel has some real strengths; great location, cleanliness, wonderful room (stayed in pool suite), staff very friendly and helpful, food was ok. The weaknesses are; smoking policy - terrible experiences throughout hotel. Eating alfresco was ruined by smokers at every other table. Evening entertainment in the cocktail bar was dreadful. Finally, the wine served in the restaurants was unpalatable ( we thought it was watered down)! On the whole a good hotel but weaknesses rule out a return visit!More
11 nights holiday
This was our 2nd visit to this hotel . The staff are great . The food is good . The daytime activities are excellent . The hotel is spotless they never stop cleaning it . The rooms are small but adequate. One downside is the children they have a adult part near the swimming pool but not in the restaurant so at evening meal you get lots of children running in and out of the restaurant. But all in all a great hotel and good value for the money you pay and we will be back .stephen and sharon langford. There 21st September until 2nd October More
