So what exactly is an infinity pool? These swimming spots are filled right to the brim – so much so that the water spills over the edge. The end result is a pool that merges into its background so beautifully that it seems to be never-ending. If it’s standout views you’re looking for, these pools are the pinnacle. We know travelling isn't possible right now, but if you're daydreaming about your post-lockdown getaway, why not use this list for a bit of inspiration...
Why this pool?
If you’re after a trip to tranquillity, this hotel’s your perfect match. The Alila Ubud’s rectangular infinity pool sets you up to immerse yourself in the hotel’s tropical surroundings. Its surface reflects the emerald-green jungle that borders it, and the soundtrack of the wildlife in the trees will have you putting your headphones away. Keep your eyes peeled, and you might even see some monkeys making their way through the treetops.
What’s the hotel like?
The rest of the hotel is just as peaceful. It sits right on the edge of the sweeping Ayung River Gorge, and blends into its surroundings so well that it’s almost like the rainforest has grown around it. Petite villas perch on stilts around the clearing, giving it the feeling of a traditional Balinese village. Don’t be fooled though, despite its secluded vibes, this hotel’s actually just a few minutes away from Bali’s cultural centre – Ubud. There’s even a shuttle bus to get you there.
What about the rest?
Food-wise, the hotel’s open-air restaurant has scooped up awards for its seasonal menus. Expect to try local favourites like spiced, slow-roasted chicken wrapped in a banana leaf, succulent scallops, and Nasi Pecel – a traditional rice dish flavoured with peanuts. There are plenty of options when it comes to activities. Start your day with a yoga class, borrow a bike, or head out for a hike along one of the hotel’s trails.

The sea-facing saltwater infinity pool is the jewel in the crown of the TUI SENSATORI Tenerife. Why? Take its size, for starters. This lagoon-like spot measures up at a massive 260 metres. What’s more, it’s kitted out with all the trimmings. We’re talking an impressive 70 in-water loungers, whirlpools, and water jets. And, in the evening, eye-widening sunset views await twilight swimmers.
What’s the hotel like?
Having said that, the views are pretty stunning whichever way you turn – this stylish hotel’s bracketed by Tenerife’s famous Mount Teide and the Atlantic Ocean. It’s also in a prime position on the island. Guia de Isora, where the hotel makes its home, is one of Tenerife’s sunniest spots. Stroll for five minutes and you’ll get to Alcalá Village, which features tapas bars and cosy cafés.
What about the rest?
For food, you’ve got the run of 10 restaurants, from a sushi bar to an Italian trattoria. And, the interior’s a feast for the eyes, too. Every detail has been carefully planned – think designer furniture, marble fountains, and sparkling chandeliers. Outside, meanwhile, the expertly manicured gardens feature kaleidoscopic flowers and a koi pond.

The infinity pool at Mexico’s Cozumel Palace takes things up a level – literally. The pool here is set on two tiers, and looks out over the ocean. A couple of swaying palm trees are all that separates the pool from the horizon – you’ll feel like you’re doing your lengths in mid-air. And, best of all, it’s got its own swim-up bar on the lower level. So, you won’t have to tear yourself away from the panoramic seascape to get yourself a drink to sip.
What’s the hotel like?
If you fancy getting even closer to the sea, you’re covered. The hotel offers direct access to the Caribbean Sea, via its private beach. This spot’s great for underwater sights, too. Under the waves you’ll find the second-biggest coral reef in the world. It’s easy for rookie snorkelers to get involved, too, just pop on a mask and some flippers – which you can borrow for free – and take a few steps into the water. Or, if you prefer, you can book yourself on to a scuba diving lesson.
What about the rest?
The ocean vistas don’t stop when you head back to your room, either – they all come complete with sea views. And that’s not all. Spa tubs accessorised with water jets come as standard, and hammocks are hung on most of the rooms’ terraces. Cozumel Palace’s All Inclusive offering dials up the luxury, too. You can eat at a selection of four restaurants, and 24-hour room service is included in your stay.

The beach is no pint-sized patch, either. Sani Beach hotel’s set on a sweeping seven-kilometre stretch of Blue Flag-waving beach. You’ll be spoiled on the sand, too thanks to the Sani Beach Experience. They’ve revamped their beach scene, with a roomy minimum distance of four metres between each parasol, band new fluffy beach towels, and comfy mattresses.
